Jason Horne Takes Second Middlesex Family Dental Twin Feature Win

by Carol Woodruff

After a rain out last week, everyone was ready to go back racing at County Line Raceway! With all of the classes locked in with the exception of the PL Woodard Pure Stock V8, track staff gave each class a round of hot laps to get ready for their feature events for the night. Continuing with the second race of the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4 twins, we would also see the Barnes Equipment Late Models, PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock's & the  ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning in action tonight!

After a brief rain delay, the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4's lined up on the backstretch for their 15 lap feature with Jason Horne & Brad Hamm on the front row. The field was set last week by their qualifying times and then we inverted the top 6 qualifiers which would set this field. After a quick hot lap session, we were under green. Two cars got together in turn 2 while William Carroll popped the wall hard coming off of turn 2 causing the caution to come out before any laps were completed. Resetting the field to the original line up, minus the caution cars, we were ready to go back to green flag racing. Jason Horne would jump out to the lead quickly going into turn 1 followed by Eric Hill, Brad Hamm, John Proctor & Bill Winstead. Lee Hicks would get loose on the backstretch bringing out the caution, but was able to continue under his own power so we were quickly back green. Horne continued to lead Hill, Hamm, Proctor and Winstead. Lap 4 would see Austin Holcombe, last week's winner, spin in turn 4 while Austin Larrison popped the wall hard in turn 4 to avoid Holcombe. Green flag with 11 to go. Horne holding off Hill followed by Hamm, Proctor & Winstead. Jamie Bailey, in 6th spot, keeping Glenn Bottoms at bay, while Zack Bunn, Chris Moore and James Manning rounded out the top 10. Up front, Hill made several attempts to get around Horne but could not complete the pass. Lap 6 would see 2 cars get down in the mud in the bottom of 4, and although one car was able to continue without assistance, one car was pushed out by our trusty push truck operator, Randy Dawson. Green flag with 9 to go, Horne still leading Eric Hill, Brad Hamm, Bill Winstead and Jamie Bailey who moved up into 5th when John Proctor slipped back 2 spots at the drop of the green. The caution would come out again for Josh Daniels when he got into the wall in turn 4. Back green with 8 to go, Horne still leading Hill, Hamm, Winstead and Bailey. Brad Hamm made the move on Eric Hill to take over 2nd spot while Jason Horne stretched his lead out. Hamm was on the move though trying to get back to him while Bill Winstead closed the gap on Hill. John Proctor was all over 5th place Bailey as the rest of the field seemed to level out. Coming to the checkers it would be Jason Horne, Brad Hamm, Eric Hill, Bill Winstead & Jamie Bailey.

Up next, the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4's with Jeffery Patterson & JP Brantley on the front row. JP Brantley would take the lead followed by Jeffery Patterson, Michael Webb, Robby Causby & Thomas Holbrooke. JP Brantley continued to lead as this field spread out coming up on all kinds of slower traffic which would bring out the caution. Back green Brantley leading Patterson, Webb, Holcombe & Robby Causby. Damien Bryant would slow to a stop over in turn 4 bringing out the caution on lap 10. After assistance to the pits, we were back green. Michael Webb attempted to get around Patterson but couldn't complete the pass, as JP Brantley continued to lead Patterson, Webb, Holbrooke & Causby. Causby got around Holbrooke to take over 4th spot as they came to the 2 to go signal. JP Brantley would bring home his first ever win in the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 division! He was followed by Jeffery Patterson, Michael Webb, Robby Causby & Thomas Holbrooke.

Lined up outside turn 4 and ready to go were the ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lighting division with Mark Boykin & Brad Hamm your front row starters. The caution would come out on lap 1 as Brad Hamm got into the wall on the backstretch. Back green with Mark Boykin leading Lane Proctor, Joey Cascell, Skeeter Liles & Johnny Edmondson. Caution out again on lap 5 when Joey Cascell suffered an engine failure. Back green with Boykin still leading Proctor, Liles, Edmondson and Scott Baines. Proctor would attempt to get around the leader but couldn't complete the pass. Skeeter Liles was dead on his bumper trying to take over 2nd spot. Proctor would get beside Boykin on the front stretch as they started catching slower traffic. With 5 to go, Mark Boykin continued to fight and hold on to the lead as Proctor was all over him. Skeeter Liles would bring out the caution as he slowed to as stop on the backstretch with 18 laps complete. Back green with 2 to go. Boykin holding off Proctor, Edmondson, Baines, Chris Radford and Matthew Bissette. Mark Boykin would bring home his 2nd win of the season followed by Lane Proctor, Johnny Edmondson, Scott Baines & Chris Radford.

The always exciting Barnes Equipment Late Models with Dustin Mitchell on the pole and Christan Joyner on the outside. Christian Joyner shot out like a cannon to take the lead followed by Mitchell, Daniel Tucker, Michael Batten and Roger Lucas. Daniel Tucker would pop the wall on lap 3 bringing out the caution. After being towed to the pits we were back green with Joyner leading Mitchell, Batten, Lucas and Travis Hair. Dustin Mitchell tried to close the gap between him and first place as the laps went in the books. Travis Hair was in the hunt as he tried to get around Lucas for the 4th spot, as Michael Batten held tight to the 3rd position. THREE WIDE in turn 4 as the leaders were catching lap traffic. JP Cascell held on tight to the 8th position as Joyner was trying to get around him and Mitchell was trying to get around him!! WOW. Joyner maintained his lead with Mitchell close behind. That right there got fans on their feet!!! Christian Joyner continued to lap cars as the laps wound down. With 5 to go it was still Joyner, Mitchell, Batten, Lucas & Hair.  And bringing home the checkers Christian Joyner, Dustin Mitchell, Michael Batten, Roger Lucas & Travis Hair.

Our final feature of the night, the PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 division with Jerry Williams & Jason Schlafer on the front row. Jason Schlafer took command of this race followed by Wade Ferrell, Kevin Beard, Carly Fulghum & Dwayne Whitley. The caution would come out on lap 2 for a spin in turn 4, but we were back green with Ferrell challenging hard for the lead. A 2 car spin over in turn 4 would bring the caution out again but we were back green with Schlafer leading Ferrell, Beard, Whitley & Fulghum. Caution again for 2 cars slowing over in the turn 3/4 area. Carly Fulghum would slow before exiting to the pits, as Josh Lucas slowed at the top of the track. Fulghum would make it back out before we went green. Schlafer leads Beard, Ferrell, Whitley & Williams. Ferrell would get down in the mud at the bottom in the bottom of 4, Gary Whitley would spin to avoid him bringing out the caution on lap 8. Gary Whitley would spin again on lap 9 in the same place after we went back green. Straightening out & ready to go, Jason Schlafer would lead Kevin Beard, Dewayne Whitley, Jerry Williams & Amanda Liles to the green. Jason Schlafer would bring home his 2nd win in a row followed by Kevin Beard, Dwayne Whitley, Jerry Williams and Amanda Liles.
