Due to the forecast of imminent rain in the area for Saturday, County Line Raceway made the call early to have the Final/Double Points night on Friday. With points championships on the line, $1,000 for PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 division and the final race of the Barnes Equipment Fast Five with $2,000 going to the winner, everyone was excited as they rolled through the gates.
Up first, the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4 division, with Jason Horne and Austin Holcombe on the front row. Holcombe would take the lead from Horne after a hard charge out of turn 2, quickly putting distance between them. Hunter Bailey held tight to 3rd spot followed by Zack Bunn and Eric Hill. By lap 7, Holcombe was lapping the tail of the field. As Holcombe made his way through slower traffic, it was giving Horne the chance to close the gap just a little. Lap 15 would see a 4 car mess over in turn 4 involving Nevin Twiddy, James Manning, Ron Hill and Jesse Duke. Austin Holcombe would get a piece of one the cars causing him to have a flat tire, as Ron Hill would end up on the wall in turn 4. After clean up, we were back green with 5 to go and Jason Horne out front. Hunter Bailey would drive in turn 2 deep, trying to take the lead only to spin. Back green, Horne leading Eric Hill, Glenn Bottoms, Bill Winstead and John Proctor. As the checkers fell, Horne would bring home the win followed by Eric Hill, Glenn Bottoms, Bill Winstead and Austin Holcombe. Congratulations to John Proctor on his 2013 Middlesex Family Dental Championship Points win!
Our 2nd feature, the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 would see 20 cars start this 15 lap race with Gary Dillon on the pole with Daniel Hill to his outside. Dillon would quickly get out front followed by Damien Bryant, Daniel Hill, Michael Webb and JP Brantley. Gary Dillon would dominate this feature race, although he did have quite the battle from Damien Bryant. As they came to the checkers, Michael Webb would get into Bryant just barely, spinning himself out, as Bryant struggled to maintain control of his car. JP Brantley would get caught up by Bryant right before the start/finish line. Gary Dillon would bring home the win followed by Daniel Hill, Thomas Holbrooke, Jeremy Benson and Cooper Edwards. Congratulations to Cody Keith on his 2013 PlayTyme Concessions Championship Points win!
Next out, the Barnes Equipment Late Models lined up for their $2,000 to win 30 lap feature. This is the final round of the Barnes Equipment Fast Five with Christian Joyner leading Bobby Bottoms by only 2 points in this special, added incentive for the late models. Christian Joyner and Michael Batten would be your front row starters and as the green flag dropped, these guys were jockeying for position. Christian Joyner took command quickly as Michael Batten fell in behind him. Dustin Mitchell was all over Batten trying to get that 2nd spot away from him followed by Roger Lucas and Travis Hair. Ray Tucker would bring out the caution on lap 12 when he slowed out of turn 3. Back green with Joyner leading Mitchell, Batten, Lucas and Hair. Spencer Liggon would spin on the backstretch bringing out the caution again on lap17, but we were quickly back green with Joyner continuing to lead Mitchell, Batten, Lucas and Hair. Christian Joyner would bring home his 9th win of the season as well as be crowned the Barnes Equipment Fast Five champion and the Barnes Equipment Late Model Champion. Congratulations Christian!
With only 86 points separating 1st and 2nd, the ARCO Restoration was sure to come down to the wire between Mark Boykin and Brad Hamm. Cy Nelms, Jr. and Mark Boykin would lead the field to the green flag with Boykin going out front quick. Nelms, Jr wouldn't back down as he stayed on Boykin's bumper. Nelms, Jr. would take the lead from Boykin as Matthew Bissette held onto 3rd, Bard Hamm 4th and Joey Cascell rounded out the top 5. Melvin Edmondson would bring out the caution lap 7 when he spun on the front stretch. Back green with Nelms, Jr continuing to lead Mark Boykin, Matthew Bissette, Brad Hamm and Joey Cascell. With 17 complete of 20, CJ Cascell spun on the backstretch bringing out the caution which would bring us to a 3 lap shootout. Back green with Nelms, Jr still leading Mark Boykin, Matthew Bissette, Brad Hamm and Joey Cascell. Cy Nelms, Jr would bring home his 2nd win of the season followed by Mark Boykin, Matthew Bissette, Brad Hamm and Joey Cascell. Congratulations to Brad Hamm who brought home the 2013 ARCO Restoration Points Championship, winning by 66 points over Mark Boykin.
Our feature event, the $1,000 to win PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 special would see Archie Whitely & Jerry Williams on the front row. Several attempts to get a lap in would be made, with over half the cars out of the race before a lap was scored. Finally going single file, Phillip Lamm would lead Amanda Liles, Carly Fulghum, Dewayne Whitley and Archie Whitley. Carly Fulghum would make her way around Amanda Liles to take over 2nd spot on lap 7. Unfortunately, Carly would spin out of 2 on lap 12, relinquishing 2nd spot to Amanda Liles. Back green with Phillip Lamm leading Amanda Liles, Archie Whitley, Dewayne Whitley and Carly Fulghum. Archie Whitley would attempt to get around Liles out of turn 2 but couldn't complete the pass, the first time, but next time around he would complete the pass. Dewayne Whitley got around Liles also as Fulghum started to work on the L4 of Liles. With 2 to go, some debris in turn 2 would cause us to go under the yellow flag. Coming to a green, white, checker finish, Phillip Lamm leads Archie Whitley, Dewayne Whitley, Amanda Liles & Carly Fulghum. Archie Whitley would hit the wall hard in turn 4 as they took the white flag, and Phillip Lamm would bring home the $1,000 payday! He was followed by Dewayne Whitley, Amanda Liles, Carly Fulghum & Dewayne Whitley. Congratulations to PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 champion Jerry Williams!
Our final event of the night would be our annual Powder Puff races. In the 4 cylinder division, we would see 12 ladies line up to take the green flag. In the end though, it would be Danah Raper bringing home the win. In the Pure Stock V8 division, unfortunately only 2 cars were able to enter the 5 lap race. Lori Kearney would lead 4 and 3/4 of a lap only to spin going into turn 4 allowing Faye Cascell to bring home the win. Thanks to all of the ladies for entering.
