Coming back to County Line Raceway after a rain out last week, fans, drivers & staff filed into the speedway ready for some good ol' Saturday night dirt track racing! On tap for tonight, the Middlesex Dental Super Stock 4's, PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4's, PL Woodard Pure Stock V8, ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning and the Twin 20's for the Barnes Equipment Late Models!
Up first, the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4's with Bill Winstead & Jamie Bailey on the front row. Winstead would come out in front of Bailey followed by John Proctor, Austin Holcombe and Jesse Duke. The caution would come out quickly on lap 2 as Josh Daniels came to a stop on the back straightaway. Back green with Bill Winstead leading Jamie Bailey, John Proctor, Austin Holcombe & Jesse Duke. Winstead would maintain a 2 car length lead over 2nd place Bailey as Proctor slid up high allowing Austin Holcombe & Jason Horne to go three wide down the front stretch into turn 1. Two cars would get together, Tony Ricketts & Ron Hill, over in turn 4 on lap 4 bringing out the 2nd caution. Green flag, Bill Winstead continuing to lead Jamie Bailey, Jason Horne, John Proctor & Austin Holcombe. Winstead with a lot of momentum going down the backstretch as Horne went to the high side to attempt to get around Bailey. Not able to complete the pass he fell back in line before trying the bottom side. Before the pass could be completed, a 3 car spin in turn 4 would slow this field yet again. Green flag with Bill Winstead still out front. Jason Horne was trying hard to get around 2nd place Jamie Bailey as Holcombe attempted to hold off Proctor. Jesse Duke would work his way back into the top 5 getting around John Proctor. Proctor would slow on the backstretch before bringing his car to the hot pit on the front straightaway under caution. Bill Winstead continued to lead Jamie Bailey, Jason Horne, Austin Holcombe & Jesse Duke as the laps wound down quickly. Proctor would exit the track within the next few laps, just as Jesse Duke seemed to slow on the backstretch. Caution with 2 to go, which would bring us to a green white checkered finish. Bill Winstead would bring home his 3rd win of the year with Jamie Bailey, Jason Horne, Austin Holcombe & Glenn Bottoms your top 5.
Our second feature of the night, the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4's would line up with Brent Atkinson & JP Brantley leading this field to green. A spin on the backstretch would bring the caution out on lap 1, but after a quick clean up by track staff, we were back green. Cody Keith would take it to the high side to get around Brent Atkinson to take the lead. Cody Keith would lead the remainder of this event bringing home his 3rd win of the season. He was followed Brent Atkinson, Michael Webb, JP Brantley & Robby Causby.
Up next, the first of two 20 lap races for the Barnes Equipment Late Models. Race #1 would see Christian Joyner & Dustin Mitchell on the front row. After rolling off the starting grid and running a few hot laps, Russell Erwin would experience some trouble when his wheel came off the car in turn 2 almost sending him into the wall. Erwin would not be able to start the feature due to a mechanical issue with the hub/wheel assembly. Dustin Mitchell would take the lead from Joyner but lap 1 would see a huge wreck over in turn 4 including Ronnie Boykin, Carlton Toney, Christian Thomas Cy Nelms and Michael Batten. The melee started when Batten got extremely loose in 4 after contact with another car that first bent his steering rack, then it broke causing him to spin. With 1 lap complete, we were back green with Mitchell leading Joyner, Roger Lucas, Robbie Emory & Travis Hair. Hair would attempt to make a move on Delaware's Robbie Emory as Bobby Bottoms was chomping on his bumper. Hair would get around Emory to take over 4th spot, as Bobby Bottoms moved up into 5th. Russell Erwin came out under the lap 1 caution and was working his way through the field trying to get on the lead lap as he came out after the leaders had crossed the line. Up front, Joyner had caught Mitchell and was putting serious heat on him as the leaders took the half way flags. Joyner would get up beside Mitchell as these 2 put on a serious show, door slamming going into the corners. With 3 to go, the caution would come out for a spin in turn 4 by Lance Brasington. Back green with 3 to go, Mitchell leading Joyner to the flag. Battling hard for the top spot, Joyner tried to close in on Mitchell and though he gained some ground in the corners, Dustin Mitchell would bring home the checkers in this first of 2 twins. He was followed by Christian Joyner, Roger Lucas, Travis Hair & Bobby Bottoms.
The PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 division lined up for their 15 lap feature with Carly Fulghum your pole sitter with Gary Whitley on the outside pole. Gary Whitley would take the lead out of turn 2 as Wade Ferrell was trying to get around Fulghum for 2nd. The caution would come out for a spin in turn 4, but we were quickly back green. Gary Whitley leads Carly Fulghum, Wade Ferrell, Kevin Beard & Willie Schwann. A hard wreck in turn 4 would red flag this feature as Roy Hall & Jerry Williams got together and hit the turn 4 wall hard. Both drivers were ok, although their cars suffered severe damage. Back green with Gary Whitley, Carly Fulghum, Wade Ferrell, Kevin Beard & Willie Schwann your top 5. Lap 7 would see Joey Graziani hit the backstretch wall hard, almost turning over. The driver was ok, and after clean up by track staff, we were back under green with Whitley leading Fulghum into turn 1 as her motor lets go. Under caution again with a lot of fluid left on the track due to her mechanical failure. Coming to a green white checkers, Gary Whitley leads Wade Ferrell, Kevin Beard, Willie Schwann & Amanda Liles. Willie Schwann would get around Beard for 3rd spot as Amanda Liles passed Beard to take over 4th. Gary Whitley brought home the win followed by Wade Ferrell, Willie Schwann, Amanda Liles & Archie Whitley.
Our ARCO Thunder & Lightning division lined up with Cy Nelms, Jr & Skeeter Liles on the front row. The beginning of lap 1 would see a 4 car mess on the backstretch including Chris Radford, Scott Baines, Doug Williams & Brad Hamm. Since no laps were complete, we reset the field and attempted to take the green again with a double file restart. Cy Nelms, Jr would take the point followed by Skeeter Liles, Mark McDaniels, Doug Williams & Chris Radford. Mark Boykin would get run up the track in turn 3 bringing out the caution. As we attempted to take the green, 2 cars would get together in turn 4 keeping us under caution as they got themselves sorted out. Back green with 1 lap complete. Cy Nelms, Jr leading Skeeter Liles, Mark McDaniels, Brad Hamm & Doug Williams. McDaniels would get loose in 3 allowing Brad Hamm to get around him for 3rd spot. Doug Williams would spin in turn 3 bringing out the caution on lap 7. Cy Nelms, Jr lead the field to green again but quickly back under caution for 4 cars in turn 1. Coming to the green white checkers yet again tonight, Cy Nelms Jr leads Skeeter Liles, Brad Hamm, Mark Boykin & Mark McDaniels. The leader would bring out the caution as he went straight into the turn 2 wall. This mechanical failure would see him towed to the pits, putting Skeeter Liles up front. Skeeter Liles would go on to bring home the win followed by Brad Hamm, Mark Boykin, Chris Radford & Melvin Edmondson.
Our final event, the 2nd race for the Barnes Equipment Late Models. After an inversion of the top 6, we would see Robbie Emory & Roger Lucas on the front row. Roger Lucas jumped out front quickly followed by Robbie Emory, but Russell Erwin was determined to take over 2nd and did so.Dustin Mitchell held on to 4th spot followed by Christian Joyner in 5th. Mitchell would get around Emory for 3rd as Joyner tried to take over 4th. Lance Brasington would bring out the caution on lap 9 when he spun over in turn 2. Very quick caution period and we were back under green with Erwin getting around Lucas to take over he lead. Lucas held onto 1nd as long as he could but was no match for Mitchell, who brought Christian Joyner with him. With 13 complete, Erwin leads Mitchell, Joyner, Lucas & Emory. With 5 to go, Mitchell pulled along side of Erwin battling for the lead. Thee to go, Mitchell all up under Erwin trying to get that top spot. Side by side in turn 2 but Mitchell couldn't complete the pass. Russell Erwin would bring home the win followed by Dustin Mitchell, Christian Joyner, Roger Lucas & Robbie Emory.
