County Line Raceway
Three New Winners Visit Victory Lane at CLR
With heavy clouds surrounding County Line Raceway, it did not deter drivers or fans! With 71 cars checked in to complete in 100 laps of exciting racing, fans lined the bleachers ready for the night to begin.
Up first the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4's with our 2012 Points Champion & current points leader John Proctor & James Manning on the front row. Proctor would get out front and never look back, leading every lap of this 20 lap feature. Austin Holcombe would challenge Proctor hard for the top spot but could not hold momentum off the corner to complete the pass. John brings home his first points win of 2013 followed by Austin Holcombe, Bill Winstead, William Carroll and Eric Hill.
Out next, the always exciting PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 division with 2 time winner Jerry Williams on the front row. Kevin Beard started in 2nd place for this 15 lap feature.Williams would get out front of Beard quickly, as Whitley went to work to get around Beard for 2nd spot. Back in the field, Roy Hall & Carly Fulghum battled over 4th spot, with Fulghum settling in behind Hall for 5th. Gary Whitley would get around Beard for 2nd spot and battle Williams for the lead but was unable to get around him. The top 3 were literally nose to tail and with one mistake, it could've been any of them taking the checkers! Jerry Williams would continue to lead & bring home his 3rd win of the season. He was followed by Gary Whitley, Kevin Beard, Roy Hall & Carly Fulghum.
The Barnes Equipment Late Models would line up with Christian Joyner, who broke the track record earlier with a 14.668, would be your pole sitter with Dustin Mitchell in 2nd spot. Mitchell would challenge Joyner early only to be shut down briefly. Mitchell would get around Joyner to take the lead on lap 3, as Joyner settled into 2nd plotting his move to get back out front. Michael Batten held tight to 3rd spot while Cy Nelms, Sr. & Bobby Bottoms rounded out the top 5. Mitchell continued to put distance between him & Joyner, stretching his lead out by 1/2 a lap. As the laps wound down, Mitchell continued to lap traffic while the top 5 remained the same. Mitchell would take the checkers bringing home his 2nd win of 2013 at County Line Raceway. Christian Joyner held onto 2nd followed by Michael Batten, Cy Nelms, Sr & Bobby Bottoms.
Our fourth feature of the night, the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 division, was loaded and ready to go door to door for 15 laps. Jeremy Benson & Jeffery Patterson would lead this 20 car field to the green flag. Lots of shuffling throughout the field with drivers jockeying for position each lap. Brent Atkinson would bring out the caution for a spin over in turn 2, but luckily for him, he was able to continue. Back green with Patterson leading Benson, Cody Keith, Thomas Holbrooke and Dennis Deaver. Deaver would lose 5th spot when he spun over in turn 4. Up front it was all Patterson as the laps wound down. No change in the top 5 until we got to 2 to go. Brent Atkinson recovered from an early spin to take over 5th spot, then 4th as they took the white flag. Jeffery Patterson would bring home his first win of 2013! Jeremy Benson came home 2nd followed by Cody Keith, Brent Atkinson & Tyler Hobgood.
Our final feature of the night, the 20 lap $800 to win ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning division would see Brad Hamm & Mark Boykin on the front row. These guys would drag race down the front stretch with Hamm having just a little advantage over Boykin going into turn 1. Boykin would not relent and get around Hamm out of turn 2 to take the lead. CJ Cascell would hit the wall hard in turn 2 bringing out the caution, but after being towed from the track, we were back under green. Hard racing through the field with a lot of shuffling for position in the back. Half way, Boykin continues to lead as the caution comes out for a spin off of 4 involving a couple of cars. Lap 14 would see another caution, as a car got around over in turn 2. With less than 5 to go, Boykin tried to put distance on the 49 of Hamm, who was holding off a hard challenge by the 01 of Owens. Owens would get around Hamm and go after Boykin with 2 to go! If anyone had a bath towel, you could've thrown it over these 3 guys! WOW! Coming to the white flag, Boykin gave it all he had to hold off Owens. Sided by side into 1 and 2, drag racing down the back stretch coming to the final corner. Mark Boykin took the checkers by a very slim margin, as Luke Owens & Brad Hamm were door to door. Luke Owens was declared 2nd place, Brad Hamm 3rd, Chris Radford came home 4th and Mark McDaniels rounded out the top 5. What a great race!!
