Christian Joyner Takes Another Win in the Spring Fever 100

No one could've asked for a more beautiful day as County Line Raceway opened the gates for the Spring Fever 100. With the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4's, PlayTyme Concessions , Pure Stock 4's, PL Woodard PSV8, ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning & the very popular Barnes Equipment Late Models set to lay down some laps, fans anxiously awaited the first green flag. During a short intermission, we announced our car show winners from last week. In the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 cylinder class, JP Brantley was announced your winner, in the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4 division, John Proctor, PL Woodard Pure Stock V8, Jerry Williams winning his first ever car show, Brad Hamm won best car in the ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning and the Barnes Equipment Late Model winner for best car Bobby Bottoms. Each winner was presented a very nice trophy from Custom Awards out of Kenly, NC.

Our first feature, the Middlesex Family Dental Super Stock 4's lined up for their 20 lap feature with Bill Winstead on the pole with a new track record of 17.640 and Austin Holcombe starting shotgun. At the drop of the green these guys went to work with racing and jockeying for position all through the field. Leading lap 1 would be the 97 of Winstead, followed by Austin Holcombe, John Proctor, Eric Hill and William Carroll. A car would get upside down coming out of four right after the leaders crossed the start/finish line. Mike Hall, in the 17, would exit his car after a wild ride. After a short red flag, we were back green. Winstead continued to lead Holcombe, Proctor, Hill and Carroll. John Proctor would work his way around Austin Holcombe as we came to lap 8 to take over 2nd spot, but Holcombe would not give up as he kept right on the bumper of Proctor. These guys were getting it done as they were averaging over 75 MPH with each lap turned. Bill Winstead would run up on slow traffic as we came to half way giving Proctor the chance to get right on the bumper of the 97. The front two started to pull away from the field as Proctor was relentless in his challenge for the lead. With 17 laps complete Eric Hill would slow and spin on the backstretch to bring out the caution. With a 3 lap shootout ahead of these guys, Bill Winstead lead them to the green flag. A caution would come out again for a 2 car spin coming out of turn, as James Manning & James Bailey got together. Back green with a green, white, checker finish. Proctor was all over Winstead but couldn't complete the pass, as Carroll got around Holcombe for 3rd bringing Glenn Bottoms with him. Coming to the checkers, it would be Bill Winstead, John Proctor, William Carroll, Glenn Bottoms & Austin Holcombe.

Up next, the PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4's with Cody Keith & Jeremy Benson on the front row. Cody Keith would lead the first lap of this 15 lap feature followed close by Jeremy Benson, Brent Atkinson, Michael Webb & Jeffery Patterson. The caution would fly early when a car spun on the backstretch. We were quickly back green with Keith continuing to lead the field as they quickly caught up with the tail of the field. Twenty three cars started this feature, and with an average speed 69 MPH it was not surprising when the leader started lapping cars. Thomas Holbrooke would bring out the 2nd caution when he spun over in turn 2, and after quick attention from our Sign-O-Rama wrecker service, we were back green. Working lap 6, Keith continuing to lead as Atkinson continued to gain ground. Atkinson would look on the inside of Keith for the lead, but couldn't complete the pass as they exited turn 2. With the top 5 so close you could throw a blanket over them, it was an epic battle amongst those guys as they fought for position and a stellar job by all drivers to maintain composure as they encountered lap traffic. Lap 13 would see another caution, as a car spun and jumped the berm on the front stretch. Pulling the caution car to the inside pit area, we were quickly back green with a green white checker finish in store for these guys. Brent Atkinson would challenge Keith for the top spot only to get shut down. Cody Keith would go on to win his first PlayTyme Concessions Pure Stock 4 race followed by Jeremy Benson, Brent Atkinson, Michael Webb & Jeffery Patterson. This was an absolute awesome race, with cars going 3 wide on several different occasions! Great job all of you on a great race!

The always exciting PL Woodard Pure Stock V8 division lined up for their 15 lap feature with Wade Ferrell & Jerry Williams on the front row. Jerry Williams would lead the first lap after getting around Ferrell out of turn 3 and never looked back. Only 3 cautions for single car spins would slow this field and with an average speed of 75 MPH, these guys & gals were hauling the mail in these V8's. With jostling for position from 6th on back, the top 5 stayed within a car length of each other but it was all Jerry Williams as he brought home the win. He was followed by Wade Ferrell, Gary Whitley, Dewayne Whitley & Roy Hall. Another great job and a great race!

After breaking the track record with a time of 16.481, Skeeter Liles would lead the field of ARCO Restoration Thunder & Lightning division roared to life for their 20 lap feature. Skeeter Liles took the top spot from the drop of the green flag as Brad Hamm tried to hold off Matthew Bissette who challenged for and over took 2nd spot. A single car spin out of turn 4 would bring out the caution on lap 3. During the caution, 2nd place Matthew Bissette pulled into the pit area for what appeared to be mechanical issues. Back green with Skeeter leading Brad Hamm, Mark Boykin, Joey Cascell & Lane Proctor your top 5. Johnny Edmondson would bring out the caution on lap 7 and quickly exited the track off of turn 2 and we were back green with 13 to go. Liles, Hamm, Boykin, Cascell & Proctor your top 5, with Liles putting about 4 car lengths between him & 2nd place Hamm. Lots of jostling for position here with Lane Proctor moving around Cascell & Boykin, taking over 3rd spot while Mark McDaniels took over 5th place. Out front, Skeeter continued to hold off Hamm, who had closed in a little bit and was definitely letting his presence be known. McDaniels & Cascell would beat & bang hard out of turn 2 with Cascell coming out on the worst end of the deal by spinning. Back green with 5 to go, Liles, Hamm, Proctor, Boykin & Scott Baines your top 5. Chris Radford would attempt to get into the top 5, challenging Baines for the position and getting it. Two to go, Liles with 2 car lengths on Hamm. Liles would lead the final 2 laps, bringing home the win followed by Brad Hamm, Lane Proctor, Mark Boykin & Chris Radford.

Our final feature of the night, the always exciting Barnes Equipment Late Models lined up for 30 laps of door banging, side by side action! Christian Joyner & Dustin Mitchell would lead this 12 car field to the green. Joyner, a 2 time winner this year in this outstanding division, would take the lead over Mitchell, his time long time friend. Mitchell would challenge Joyner hard in the corners only to lose ground on the straightaways, although not by more than a car length. Michael Batten would hold on to 3rd spot, fending off Travis Hair as we came to lap 14. Just as Batten crossed the line to complete the lap, a lap car would come down on Batten causing him to bounce off and slow down, Travis Hair would hit Batten and spin. Quick yellow, as all cars were able to continue under their own power, although Hair would retire to the pits. Christian Joyner lead Dustin Mitchell, Bobby Bottoms, Neal Sykes & JP Cascell to the green flag as we closed in on 10 to go. These guys were averaging about 85 MPH as they made their circuits around this 3/8 mile track, and as the laps closed in, the field tightened it up. Joyner continued to try to put distance on the 51 of Dustin Mitchell while Bobby Bottoms held on to 3rd spot. Neal Sykes rode in 4th and JP Cascell rounded out the top 5. With 5 to go, Joyner seemed to be pacing himself as Mitchell stayed dialed into the track, waiting patiently for his chance to steal the lead. Roger Lucas would make his move on Cascell for the 5th spot as we came to the checkered flag. Christian Joyner would bring home his 3rd win of the year, followed by Dustin Mitchell, Bobby Bottoms, Neal Sykes and Roger Lucas. Great job to all of you for running an outstanding race!
