Johnny Scott visits Volusia for World of Outlaws opener
Johnny Scott began his pursuit for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series title on Thursday afternoon at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) as the 2023 season kicked off with the fourth annual Sunshine Nationals.
With 47 Late Models packed into the pit area for the three-day event, Johnny edged his way into the opener with the third-and-final transfer spot in his B-Main after finishing sixth in his heat. With $8,000 on the line, Scott inched forward one spot in the 25-lap affair to place 20th.
For another $8,000-to-win program on Friday, Scott’s third-place finish in his heat race placed him on the seventh row for the A-Main. Fading two spots in the 20-lapper, Johnny crossed the line in 15th.
An unfavorable forecast for Saturday’s program forced officials to cancel the Sunshine Nationals finale.
