Stormy Scott sixth in Wild West Shootout opener
Both Johnny and Stormy Scott made the short trip to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) on Saturday afternoon to kick off the 2023 season with the 17th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout.
With 47 Late Models on the grounds for the opening round of the six-race event, Stormy edged his way into the opening night feature with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat while Johnny finished second in his heat. Despite Johnny fading outside the top-10 to finish 12th, Stormy advanced forward seven positions in the 40-lap affair to register a sixth-place finish.
For another $10,000-to-win program on Sunday, Johnny topped his 24-car group in time trials before placing second in his heat. Stormy locked his spot into the show with a third-place finish in his heat but failed to carry that momentum in the 40-lapper as he faded to 20th when the checkered flag flew. Johnny recorded a 10th-place finish in the weekend finale.
