Inside Line Promotions – CALIFORNIA, Mo. (May 24, 2021) – Garet Williamson posted a podium performance on Sunday during his sprint car debut at Double X Speedway.
The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver was efficient throughout the night on the bottom-dominant track, winning a heat race from the pole before earning a third-place finish in the feature.
“We ran away with it in the heat race,” he said. “In the feature it was around the bottom. We started on the outside of the front row and got shuffled back. We rode around second and third the whole race.
“It was good to get another top five. It’d have been nice to get a win, but I think that’s coming for us because we’ve had a lot of speed this year.”
Williamson nearly recorded a podium to open the weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. He won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. Williamson pulled the No. 3 during the feature redraw to start the A Main on the inside of the second row.
“I thought we were really good,” he said. “If there had been a bottom to run down there or throw some sliders I think we could have been further up front.”
Williamson ran inside the top five throughout the race before a late-race incident resulted in an 11th-place result.
“It was super fast,” he said. “We were running fourth and I got in too hard behind (Matt) Covington. I got over the curb. When I came down off it the car got upset and spun. It was my mistake. It was hard to get by anybody and I was pushing too hard.”
Williamson plans to race this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., during the Sprint and Midget Nationals presented by The Drivers Project with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and ASCS Warrior Region. He earned a pair of sprint car wins at the track last year.
“I’m pumped to get there,” he said. “We always unload fast there. It will be nice to return to a track where we’ve had success. We had unfortunate stuff happen when we raced there earlier this year so hopefully we can have a better weekend this time out. Plus, I’m excited to qualify there since they are doing group qualifying.”
