Ian Madsen Second at Knoxville After Hard Fought Battle; Jackson, Knoxville, and Mason City On Tap This Week

PETERSEN MEDIA- Ian Madsen has been the man to beat at Knoxville Raceway as of late. Saturday night, Madsen put on a show as he and Brian Brown battled hard for the win, but in the end Madsen would settle for a second place finish.

“It was a really good battle with Brian Brown on Saturday night,” Ian Madsen said. “Obviously we would rather be in victory lane, but we certainly are not hanging our heads with our finish.”

Saturday nigh in Knoxville, IA, Madsen opened his night up by timing the Logan Contractors Supply Inc/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring No. 18 machine in seventh quickest in qualifying time trials.

Lining up fourth in his heat race, Madsen would get a nice start as he quickly jumped into the second position. Chasing after Danny Lasoski, Madsen would make a big move in turns one and two with two laps remaining to take the lead and race his way to the win.

Moving directly into the feature event, Madsen would line up on the front row of the feature event alongside older brother, Kerry. When Doug Clark’s green flag was displayed to the field, Madsen would jump out to the early lead.

With Brian Brown hot on his tail, the duo would hook up in an extremely entertaining battle for the top spot that saw them go back and forth during the first eight laps of the race.

Brown would end up getting the better end of the battle as Madsen ran in the second position before Lasoski briefly got by him to drop him back to third.

Racing in traffic, Madsen would retake the second position as he chased after Brown who extended his lead. Unable to get back up to challenge Brown, Madsen would settle for second as he continues to lead the championship standings at the track.

Saturday night’s successful night came after a tough Tuesday night in Sarver, PA with the World of Outlaws. Losing an engine during time trials, Madsen would tag the back of a heat race and race his way to a sixth place finish.

Forced into the semi, the St. Marys, NSW wheelman would line up in eighth starting positon. Needing to get into the top-four to keep his night going, Madsen would come up just short as a fifth place finish would end his 2017 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup.

“We had some bad luck on Tuesday night with an engine, but still a good week for our team,” Madsen added. “It’s that time of the year where you want to be on your game, and I really feel we are right there and even continuing to get better.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
