Ian Madsen Picks Up World of Outlaws Top-10 in Salina, OK
PETERSEN MEDIA- Traveling to Kansas and Oklahoma to battle the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series over the weekend, Ian Madsen would finish sixth on Saturday night in Salina, OK after an 11th place finish in Kansas City, KS on Friday night.
“We didn’t time in very well either night, but the KCP Racing No. 18 car raced extremely well,” Ian Madsen said.
Friday night in Kansas, Madsen opened the night up by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed entry in 17th quickest in qualifying time trials with 36 cars checked into the pit area.
Lining up fifth in heat race one, Madsen would finish in the fifth position which lined him up in the 17th starting spot for the 30-lap feature event. On the racy Lakeside Speedway, Madsen was able to move forward and dig himself out of the early hole that was created after time trials.
Racing his way forward and fighting for a Top-10 position with Logan Schuchart and Daryn Pittman, Madsen would close the night out with an 11th place finish as the team then set their sights on Salina, OK.
Checking into the Salina Highbanks on Saturday night, Madsen again would not time in where he wanted to be as he ended up 13th quickest of the 23 cars that checked into the pit area.
Advancing from fifth to fourth in his heat race, the Knoxville Raceway Track Champion would grid the field from the fifth row for the 30-lap feature event. On the slick ½ mile, Madsen would move forward during the fast paced feature event.
Able to go wheel-to-wheel with some of the series’ top drivers, Madsen would battle with Shane Stewart and Jason Johnson for position inside the Top-Five until a late caution put the field in single file formation.
The green-white-checkered would see Madsen hang on and close his weekend out with a sixth place finish.
“It was good to move forward both nights,” Ian Madsen said. “With the Outlaw format the way it is, you really have to time in well to put yourself up front, so that is something we need to do better on the next couple of weeks.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
