PETERSEN MEDIA- Amidst a really strong run in the Midwest right now, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team picked up a win with the World of Outlaws on Thursday night during the Jackson Nationals opener before finishing ninth during the Saturday night finale.
“It is great to get another World of Outlaws win,” Ian Madsen said. “To do it and out duel (brother) Kerry (Madsen) is pretty special. It’s a huge testament to how strong we have been running.”
Kicking the 39th Annual AGCO Jackson Nationals off on Thursday night at the Jackson Motorplex, Madsen timed the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed entry in third fastest in his qualifying flight.
Running second in his heat race, Madsen would move into the Dash where the win placed him on the front row of the 25-lap feature event.
Seeing the green flag, Madsen would jump out to the early lead as he led the way over the likes of David Gravel, and older brother, Kerry. Continuing to look strong out front, the race would get interesting with one final double-file restart.
Lined up alongside his brother, the younger Madsen would get the jump though he would have a battle on his hands. Able to negate the challenge in the final laps, Madsen would on to claim his second career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series feature event.
Coming out strong again on Friday night, Madsen would time his mount in eighth fastest in his qualifying flight and finish fourth during heat race action, locking into the feature event.
Lining up 16th in the feature event, Madsen’s hopes of gaining Jackson Nationals points in the feature would be dashed early as he got upside down and ended his night on the start of the race.
Still sitting decent in event points heading into the finale, Madsen would line up on the front row of his heat race where a second place finish would move him into the feature event, as well as the Dash.
Starting and finishing ninth in the Dash, the St. Marys, NSW driver would grid the field from the fifth row for the 30-lap feature event.
On a fast surface, Madsen would race hard with the likes of Mark Dobmeier and Daryn Pittman as they battled for real estate among the Top-10.
Never really able to get a run going forward, Madsen would close his weekend out on a good note as he finished ninth with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ at the Jackson Nationals.
“We have really had a fast car lately, and it is good to have a good weekend with these guys,” Madsen added. “We have ran well with them (World of Outlaws) all season, and this weekend we will try to get another win with them in Knoxville.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
