Eric Schulz
Double the Fun!!
This past Friday night Eric Schulz and the crew could be found in Rock Rapids IA for Rapid Speedways 410 Outlaw Special! In addition to the 410, Eric pulled double duty, and ran his HRA non-wing sprint. It was to be an exciting and busy night for Eric’s season opener!
The non-wing heat was first up for Eric, slated to start on the outside pole. As the green flag dropped and the field rushed into turn one, the car behind made contact with the Papik Motors number 4 sprinter resulting in a flat left front tire, forcing the car into the pits for repairs.
Eric drew very well and started on the inside front row in the third heat with his Outlaw Sprint. Eric slowly slid back in the field as the race wore on, as the car was loose and the driver was green. Eric wound up in the rear of the field resulting from a spin late in the race.
The crew then took their turn in the spot light as they hustled and bustled getting both cars ready for the A mains!
Do to the DNF in the non-wing heat, Eric lined up in 10th for the A-main. As he started the race, you could see that the car was fast. “I was surprised when the car threw me into the back of my seat on a dry slick track, the car was hooked up!” In the early stages of the feature Eric got tangled up with a fellow racer and had to turn off the track to avoid major catastrophe. He gathered up the racer and charged back up to 4th, pulling along side the 3rd place car at the checkered flag! “It was fun charging from 10th to challenging for 3rd, the crew really nailed the set-up!” stated Eric at the end of the race.
The 410 Outlaw feature was next up and the number 4X machine was on the grid in the 18th starting spot. The track was smooth and slick with some rubber coming in on the bottom of the track, but Eric was able to claw his way up to an un-official 13th spot. Eric raced a good race with the cars around him before breaking a push rod in the motor and retiring for the night.
“We had a lot of fun running both cars tonight, there was no way I could of done any of this with out the help of my crew, Jason Brugger and, Dick and Sandy Schulz, (Mom and Dad) and I called in some extra help for at the track, Keith Hodenfield. These guys could have won the NASCAR pit crew challenge in Charlotte NC the day before!”
Next up will be Rocky again with just the HRA Sprinter on Friday, and Jackson Speedway on Saturday in Dick Veekners 360 Sprinter. Pending getting the 410 motor ready, we plan on being back on track for Husets Speedway in Brandon SD for Sunday and Monday!
