Speed, Sportsmanship Paramount on Elliott Classic Night

Speed is the name of the game at Meridian Speedway this Friday, September 20, as the Elliott Sportsman Classic presented by Rod Panike at Select Properties headlines night one of Les Schwab Tires Pink Lady Classic weekend. The Speed Tour Winged Sprint Cars powered by Pit Stop USA spend Friday night qualifying for the Pink Lady Classic, while the NASCAR Modifieds, Meridian Speedway Midgets, Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stocks, and Trammel Construction Stingers race for the night’s Trammel Construction trophies.

The Speed Tour Sprint Cars powered by Pit Stop USA face an array of qualifying races Friday night. First up, single car qualifying will lock the fastest two drivers into Saturday’s Les Schwab Tires Pink Lady Classic. For the rest of the field qualifying heat races are next with the top two finishers in each of these races locked into the Pink Lady Classic starting grid.

Next up, the sixth and seventh place finishers from the qualifying heats take on a twenty-lap consolation main event, with the winner locked into the Pink Lady Classic and second through tenth transferred to Friday’s thirty-lap Elliott Sportsman Classic, where they join the third through fifth place heat race finishers. At the end of Friday night’s action 21 of the Pink Lady Classic’s 22 guaranteed starting spots will be filled. But the sprint cars aren’t the only division with a busy night ahead.

The NASCAR Modifieds take on a double feature Friday. Brendon Fries leads new runner up Josh Jackson by a sizeable but not insurmountable 79 markers as they rumble to green Friday.

Devin Westover leads the Meridian Speedway Midgets into a two-day show of their own Friday and Saturday. Westover leads teammate Chuck Groat by 24 points, who is just two points ahead of third place Cheyenne Merrill as the trio speed into their final two events of the year.

Boise Bath and Kitchen Company Mini Stock racer Morgan Trammel now holds a 102-point advantage over second place point man Don Trafford, an advantage Trammel looks to extend Friday.

With this and one more event left on the Trammel Construction Stinger schedule Makayla Trafford has taken a 42 point lead over Ryat Gorringe in the standings. If Gorringe is to repeat as division champ he’ll have to score maximum points Friday while he fends off Trafford’s fast machine.

On Saturday night, September 21, the NASCAR Trucks, Vintage Sprintcars, and Idaho Asphalt Services Hornets take to the track.

Jenna Quale needs only to start both NASCAR Truck features to take home the 2024 Meridian Speedway division championship and the overall 2024 NASCAR Truck Series championship.

The Idaho Vintage Racers find themselves in pursuit of Joey Layman heading into their final feature of the season. Layman leads Kenny Hamilton by a sizeable but not insurmountable 35 markers entering Saturday’s races.

Idaho Asphalt Services Hornet driver Cris Endicott bought himself some room to breathe in last Saturday’s Dan Breach Memorial. Thanks to his overall event victory he leads Titus Clancy by 39 points as the pair enter the final three events of their year.

General admission for each night of the Les Schwab Tires Pink Lady Classic is just $21 for adults, $19 for seniors and military members, $8 for kids 7-11, and free for kids 6 and under. Gates open at 4:45 p.m. Friday with qualifying at 5:30 and races at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 4:45 p.m. with races starting at 5:55 p.m. Tickets are still available at www.meridianspeedway.com but going fast.
