Jackson snares Whitworth Memorial $2000

Humboldt- With mother nature pushing the annual Whitworth Memorial Races to Sunday, area drivers took advantage of the opportunity and checked into the 3/8 mile Humboldt Speedway to chase an elusive $2000 payday in USRA / Ray's Metal Depot B Modified action. Lebanon, Missouri's Kris Jackson started outside the pole for the 30 lap event, along side Bonner Springs, Kansas ace Ethan Isaacs. Isaacs suffered front end damage after an incident with the turn four wall allowing Jackson to hold off several contenders, including 2015 USRA B Mod National Champion Andy Bryant and Springfield, Missouri's JC Morton for the win. The $2000 payday was part of the annual Whitworth family memorial race held each year to honor Dwaine and Ron Whitworth, both instrumental for the tracks success and history.
In McCarthy Auto Group / USRA A modified action, Wichita driver Cody Schniepp made it two in a row, again fighting off fellow Wichita area driver Tad Davis for the victory.
In Fastshafts by Axle Exchange Street Stock action, Savonburg, Kansas' own Jay Lamons Jr. took home the victory over Cleveland, Missouri's Devin Irvin. The two battled for 16 laps as Lamons took advantage of a late race restart to put some distance between himself and the second place car of Irvin.
Derek Wilson from Chanute, continued his dominance of the Pure Stock class with an impressive victory. Second place went to Topeka's Byron Glotzbach, who made only his second appearance at the Humboldt Speedway. Humboldt's own Wayne Johnson rounded out the top three.
In the Sport Compact Class, Humboldt teen Marisha Collins garnered her very first A feature win. Collins took advantage of a late race incident to lead the final two circuits, beating out a hard charging Tevyn James.
Racing resumes at Humboldt Speedway on June 3rd, with all five weekly classes in competition. For more information and photos please visit www.humboldtspeedway.com
