Phillips Cashes in on USMTS Gold

Humboldt Speedway hosted the second round of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental Friday night, and Terry Phillips hoisted the winner’s check for $3,000. he 50-year-old from Springfield, Mo., was the beneficiary of a rough-and-tumble battle for the lead between Cade Dillard and Rodney Sanders midway through the race that saw Dillard retire with rear end damage and Sanders sent to the tail of the field. Phillips inherited the top spot for the restart with 20 laps in the books, then went unchallenged the final 22 orbits to claim his second career USMTS triumph at ‘The Hummer’ .
In USRA / Ray's Metal Depot B- Mods, another Springfield, Missouri driver topped the field. Ryan Gilmore used his pole position start to hold off Ft. Scott drivers Brian Bolin and Andy Bryant for the win.
In Fastshafts by Axle Exchange Pure Stocks, Chanute driver Dereck Wilson continued his march towards another Humboldt Speedway championship while picking up the win. Wilson held off Mike Churning and Bryce Weldon for the victory. Zoe Hannah and Joey DeCoster rounded out the top five.
The Sport Compact division saw yet another first time winner, as Shawnee, Kansas driver Cami Bruner pick up her first career victory. Bruner fended off Topeka's Barry Luthi in a caution filled feature. Jarrett Watkins, Marisha Collins and Steven Bun ton rounded out the top five.
Next week sees the return of all regular classes and Humboldt Speedway's annual Kid's Night. For more results, photos and information visit www.humboldtspeedway.com
