A night of sweeps at Greenbush Race Park

The only visit of the year for the NOSA Sprints was the highlight on a hot and sticky evening of racing at the Greenbush Race Park.

The Streets lined up 18 cars for their feature, and Chase Boen of Karlstad, MN, would lead the first lap from his inside second row starting position. Boen was chased for the first half of the race by Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, and Jerome Berger of Badger, MN. The first caution flew on lap seven and on the restart Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, got around Berger for the second spot. Johnson started ninth and had quietly worked his way forward. Again Boen had to hold off Blacklance for the top spot, and a caution with four to go would bunch up the field once again. Boen would still have to hold off Blacklance, but Blacklance would have to hold off Johnson. Boen was able to hold the pair off to get his first win of the year, while Johnson got Blacklance at the flag stand for second. Blacklance would finish third and win his heat while Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, and John Halvorson of Warren, MN, go the other heat wins.

Seventeen NOSA Sprints made the trip to the Race Park but only 14 were able to start the feature. After the four wide salute to honor WoO driver Jason Johnson, Austin Pierce of Grand Forks, ND used his outside front row starting spot to take the early lead. But three cautions came early and when they got back to racing it was Wade Nygaard of Grand Forks, ND to take the top spot, with Pierce right on his bumper in second. The pair raced this way for the next 11 laps when Nygaard was slowed by a lapped car and Pierce dove to the bottom to grab the lead. Caution flew on lap later and on the restart, Pierce was gone, he quickly had a straightaway lead over Nygaard. The final caution came with two to go setting up a green, white, checkered finish, and Pierce got another good restart and went on to grab the checkers and a sweep of the evening. Nygaard would finish second and win the other heat and Jordan Adams of Reynolds, ND would finish third.

The 10 Modified feature was slowed by only one caution on lap one. Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, MN, was the early leader, but on lap two Wahl couldn't hold off last year's national champ as Ward Imrie of Winnipeg, Mb. passed Wahl out of corner two. From there Imrie had it in cruise mode and went on to get his first win of the year at the Park and a sweep of the evening. Wahl would finish second and Justin Bronk of West St. Paul, MB, third. Ryan Kereluk of St. Andrews, MB, would pick up the other heat win.

Austin Hunter of Winnipeg, MB, would start seventh in the 11 Midwest Modified feature, but by lap two he was in the lead. Aaron Blacklance would challenge Hunter for the lead a couple of times as the two raced each other hard for several laps during the middle part of the race. But Hunter would go on to get his second win of the year and a sweep of the evening. Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, would end up getting by Blacklance for second. Logan Salazar of Neche, ND got the other heat win.

It took the 10 car Lightning Sprint field five tries to get their race going on the dry slick racing surface. When they did go green on the fifth try Alex Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, grabbed the early lead, Dexter Dvergsten of Greenbush, MN, started fourth and fell into the second spot. Dvergsten followed Truscinski for 15 laps but was never able to get close enough to take the lead and Truscinski would go on to get his first win of the year and sweep of the evening. Dvergsten would finish second and win his heat, and Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, would finish third.

Second year Pure Stock driver Austin Brekkestran of Thief River Falls, MN, would lead the early stages of the feature, but a caution on lap five would put everyone on his bumper for the restart, and Jared Palm of Warroad, MN, would take full advantage. Palm would go on to win his third of the summer and sweep the evening. Brekkestran would finish second and A.J. Lane of Williams, MN, would finish third.
