Greenbush Race Park

Blacklance, Palm, and Halvorson pick up GRP wins

With the weather looking like it didn't know what to do; the Greenbush Race Park beat the odds and was able to get their program in.

The Street feature would have Jeremy Gust of Strathcona, MN, sitting on the pole and would lead the first lap, but coming out of corner two on lap two he would surrender the lead to John Halvorson of Warren, MN. One lap later Gust would spin in two and was unable to continue. On the restart Halvorson would have to contend with rookie Jerome Berger of Badger, MN, and veteran Ryan Johnson of Karlstad, MN, with Johnson taking the second spot and Berger falling back. The final caution flew on lap eight when Taylor Jacobson of Roseau, MN, went for a ride off corner two and flipped his car three to four times. Jacobson was able to walk away from the accident. When the green flew again, Johnson was right on Halvorson's bumper. Johnson was able to get alongside Halvorson but didn't have enough to make the pass and Halvorson would pick up his first win and sweep of the year at the Race Park. Johnson would finish second and win the other heat, and Tucker Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, would finish third.

Shane Wahl of Greenbush, MN, would lead the Midwest Modifieds to the green flag, but it would be Patrick Sobolik of Hallock, MN, leading the first lap. But just two laps in it would be Wahl hooking a rut in corner three and sending him air borne flipping at least two times before landing hard on his right side. He would walk away from the accident. Sobolik would lead three more laps before Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls, MN, would make the pass for the lead coming out of corner two. Blacklance was able to hold everyone off, even though two more cautions, to pick up his second feature win and sweep of the year. Logan Salazar of Neche, ND finished second and Sobolik third.

Aaron Holtan of Newfolden, MN, would start from the outside of the first row and lead the first 13 laps when a caution would put everyone back on his bumper. It would be longtime friend and rival Rick Delaine of Stoney Mtn. MB, to take advantage of the situation as he passed Holtan coming out of corner two for the lead. Delaine would hold everyone off even through one more caution to go on to pick up his first win and sweep of the year. Holtan would finish second and win his heat and Justin Bronk of West St. Paul, MB, would finish third.

The Lightning Sprint feature went caution free as Trent Stengl jumped in the seat of the Lawrence Veralrud machine and would pass leader Alan Truscinski of Greenbush, MN, on lap two to pick up the win. Kelsi Pederson of East Grand Forks, MN, would pass Truscinski on lap later for the second spot. Truscinski would finish third and pick up the heat win.

A.J. Lane of Williams, MN, would start third in the Pure Stock feature and lead the first three laps before Jared Palm of Warroad, MN, would make the pass for the lead coming out of corner two. Daryl Heintz of East St. Paul, MB, appeared to have passed Palm for the lead on lap six, but a caution wiped that out. On the restart Heintz was sent to the rear for jumping the start. Palm would continue to lead but would have to hold off Austin Brekkestran of Thief River Falls, MN. Palm was able to put some space between himself and Brekkestran in the closing laps to pick up his first win of the year, Brekkestran would finish second and Chad Hagen of Thief River Falls, MN, third. Heintz would get the heat win.

Kelly Steele of International Falls, MN, picked up his second win in a row in the Outlaw Mini Mods, but he had to work to get it. He passed William Dulmage of Ramsey, MN, on lap four for the lead, and then swapped the lead with Emo, Ont. driver Blake Ferris before picking up the win. Ferris would finish second and win the heat and John Dulmage of Ramsey, MN, would finish third.

Up next for the fastest 1/4 mile track in Northwestern Minnesota is the "Dugan" Nelson Memorial for the Midwest Modifieds. Also racing that night will be the Modifieds, Streets, Pure Stocks and Lightning Sprints. Gates open at 4 pm; cutoff for the draw is at 6 pm with the green flag dropping at 7 pm sharp.
