Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2019) – Jason Sides was in contention for a top-10 result during the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s finale on Saturday before a mechanical problem ended the event early.

Sides produced a pair of solid outings during the two preliminary nights at East Bay Raceway Park to put himself in a great position entering Saturday night.

“It’s a tough track to run and we only get to race there once a year,” he said. “I actually think we hit on something and I’ll know where to start the event next year.”

Sides rallied from eighth to fifth place in a heat race before he won a B Main to garner a transfer into the rear of the main event on Thursday. He then charged from 20th to eighth in the A Main.

“We made progress throughout the night after starting in the back of a heat race,” he said. “That event is all about passing cars and accumulating points so to rally like we did put us in a good position.”

Sides powered from fourth to second place in a heat race on Friday. That locked him into the main event, in which a 14th-place run put him seventh in overall preliminary points out of more than 50 drivers. With one of the top six drivers in points not racing on Saturday it moved Sides into the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 2 to start the A Main on the outside of the front row.

“We hot lapped with the car full of fuel to get the feel and it felt really good,” he said. “We had a good car and ran in the top 10 the whole time, but I felt something mechanically with about 10 laps to go and we didn’t want to tear anything up so we pulled in.”

Sides will return to World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series action this Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and Saturday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, during the East Texas LoneStar Shootout.

Sides posted his career-best result of 14th last year during his second career race at Cotton Bowl Speedway. He finished a career-best fifth in 2010 at LoneStar Speedway.
