Hill Consistent Throughout Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s
Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2019) – Poor luck and timing trumped consistency and speed for Alex Hill during the three-day Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s event at East Bay Raceway Park last weekend.
While Hill advanced or maintained her starting position in five of six races, it wasn’t quite enough to enable her to crack an A Main lineup among the stout field that averaged approximately 50 cars each night.
“I felt we were fast all weekend,” she said. “We were eighth overall in hot laps on the final night. We just had some bad draws and starts and restarts.”
Her best heat race draw during the event was on Friday when she drew the fourth starting spot.
“We had a good draw on Friday, but a guy starting behind us jumped two rows and they let it go,” she said. “That got us bunched up in the first turn and we ended up losing several spots.”
The racing surface presented a challenge as well.
“The track conditions were kind of tough,” she said. “But that’s not an excuse since everyone races on the same track. It was just one more thing in addition to not really having anything go our way in three nights of racing.
“It was just one of those times when we couldn’t seem to get a break. That happens to everyone. We still learned from it. We’ll put it behind us and look forward to our first race with ASCS this year.”
Hill’s next scheduled race is the 46th annual ASCS Spring Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, March 15-16.
