Rilat Produces Podium Finish During Second Round of Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s

Inside Line Promotions – TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 18, 2019) – Travis Rilat posted a podium finish during the second night of the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s last weekend at East Bay Raceway Park.

It was the highlight of a three-day event that kicked off the season for the BDS Motorsports driver.

“It was a decent weekend for the first one of the year,” he said. “We could have had better results, but we had good speed. More importantly we got to honor Ronald’s memory and spend time with his father, Marcus. It’s just nice that we have that bond and friendship that’s lasted all these years. For him to still be around the sport that he lost his son in is pretty neat. He and I got there Wednesday and shared some great times.”

The event began on Thursday with Rilat finishing fourth in a heat race and third in a B Main to miss advancing into the main event by only one position.

Friday’s action started much better as Rilat won a heat race after lining up on the outside of the front row. That earned enough points to start the 25-lap main event sixth.

Rilat drove into third place on the opening lap. He advanced into the runner-up position near the midpoint of the race before losing a position in the closing laps to score a third-place run.

“On the start of the race we got a great run around the top and picked off a few cars,” he said. “It got a little dicey in traffic. We gained a position and lost one late in the race to end third.”

The event concluded on Saturday. Another heat race win locked Rilat into the 10th starting position for the 40-lap main event.

“I didn’t make the right moves early enough in the race to get the car going,” he said. “I just wasn’t in the right spot. I went right around the top the first of the race and the track wasn’t cleaned off. I should have run the bottom side early.”

Rilat rebounded in the second half of the race to record an 11th-place finish.

The team is scheduled to return to action March 15-16 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 46th annual ASCS Spring Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
