RICKY ELLIOTT SCORE 11TH OF SEASON 400TH CAREER WIN PLUS KING OF KINGS
The Super Late Model 20-lap feature was a thriller. It was an all-female battle in the early laps with Amanda Whaley out front and Staci Warrington challenging from second. Ricky Elliott was wasting no time as he got by Herb Tunis for third on lap three and one lap later, took second from Warrington.
The race was far from over as Whaley was fast and had the quicker bottom groove secured. Donald Ling, Jr. worked his way into fourth just before halfway and at the crossed flags the top five were Whaley, Elliott, Warrington, Lingo, Jr., and Andrew Mullins.
Elliott made a couple of challenges on the outside of Whaley but she fought them off each time. Lingo, Jr. took third with five to go. With three to go Elliott went to the outside in three but again Whaley prevailed. Elliott got a good run off of turn four and shot to the outside in one, edging into the lead coming off the second turn.
The race wasn’t over as Warrington had the rear suspension explode on the front straight bringing out the first and only yellow with one to go. Elliott got a great restart and powered to the win with Whaley finishing a hard earned second. Mullins made a wild charge on the final lap to finish in third with Lingo fourth and Tunis fifth. Heats were won by Warrington and Elliott.
The win was a milestone for Elliott. “I got my start here and I just got my 400th career win here, said Elliott of his long and illustrious racing career in both the late models and modifieds. Elliott would finish off a special night by holding off Mullins on the final lap to win the “King of Kings for late model winners this season.
