BEAU WILKINS NETS 3RD WIN OF SEASON IN BIG BLOCKS
By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – Beau Wilkins tightened the point race in the NAPA Big Block Modifieds on Fund Raiser Night Saturday at the Delaware International Speedway.
For the second week in a row, Matt Hawkins was riding in the high groove and pulling away. Wilkins got by Scott VanGorder for second on lap two and two laps later took second from Dave Dissinger. By the time he got clear of traffic, Hawkins had built a half a straight lead.
By the halfway sign, Wilkins had started to close on Hawkins while Jordan Watson got by Dissinger for third. Brad Trice followed into fourth with H.J. Bunting up to fifth. With ten to go Hawkins encountered lapped traffic and almost tangle in the fourth turn. He managed to get by the car but then slow to a stop in the second turn bringing out the yellow.
Wilkins was the new leader with Trice in second. Bunting got by Trice with six laps to go but could get no closer than a couple of car lengths as Wilkins powered to the win. Bunting finished in the second spot with Trice third. Jordan Watson held off Jamie Mills who finished in fifth. Heats were won by Matt Hawkins and Mills.
