BUNTING BACK ON TOP IN BIG BLOCK MODIFIEDS
By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – H. J. Bunting put together three quick wins in the early season in the at the Delaware International Speedway but his last win was back on May 17th. Jamie Mills came into Saturday night’s 25-lap NAPA Big Block Modified feature with a 20 point lead over Bunting and three straight wins.
Matt Hawkins had looked strong in winning the first heat and took off in the lead in the main with his father, Dale Hawkins running in second. The pack was running three wide behind the pair with Jordan Watson clearing the group and taking third by lap four.
Watson got by Dale Hawkins for second one lap later with Beau Wilkins charging into third. The yellow was out on lap nine as Scott VanGorder slowed to a stop on the back straight. On the restart Bunting got by Wilkins and one lap later moved by Watson for second. Matt Hawkins’ lead would end just before halfway when he slowed dramatically on the back straight bringing out the yellow and moving Bunting  on top.
Watson and Wilkins put on a great battle for second while Jamie Mills worked by Brad Trice into fourth. The yellow was out with four laps to go as Dave Simmons came to a stop. Bunting took off on the restart as Watson and Wilkins continued to swap second. At the checkered it was Bunting taking his fourth win of the season. Watson came out on top in the battle for second with Wilkins finishing third. Fourth went to Mills and Trice rounded out the top five. Heats were won by Matt Hawkins and Shawn Ward.
