MILLS WINS BIG BLOCK CAMP BARNES THRILLER
By CHARLIE BROWN, DELMAR, DE – Tuesday night’s 42nd Annual Camp Barnes Benefit was a huge success as 132 competitors and a packed grandstand supported this year’s event at the Delaware International Speedway.
The feature starts were heads up from the heat finishes putting Scott VanGorder on the pole and Jordan Watson second in the 25-lap Big Block Modified main. VanGorder set the pace for the first six laps before Watson edged on top. Two laps later, Jamie Mills dropped VanGorder to third.
It was “all in the family as Jordan Watson battled his “Uncle Jamie wheel to wheel swapping the lead until the halfway sign. As Mills took the point the first and only caution of the race flew when Shawn Weber rolled to a stop. On the restart Mills pulled away as Watson began being challenged by Matt Jester and H.J. Bunting.
Bunting got by Jester with five to go and two laps later took second from Watson. Although snaking through heavy traffic in the final laps, Mills would never be challenged as he drove to the win worth $3325. Bunting would finish second with Jordan Watson third. Fourth went to Jester and VanGorder ended a sold drive in fifth.
