RICKY ELLIOTT WINS BY A NOSE IN SUPER LATE MODELS

photo 2

By Chad Cathell: The Super Late Models would once again prove that despite a low car count the amount of talent and showmanship was anything but low. Donald Lingo Jr. would jump out to a quick lead over Herb Tunis on lap number two. Lingo would begin to check out and Tunis would battle Staci Warrington until contact was made in turn two with Tunis heading to the pits shortly thereafter.

Ricky Elliott would slowly work his way through on the bottom side and would go door-to-door with Warrington as she drifted up coming out of turn number two making contact with the outside retaining wall. Entering turn three Warrington’s left rear would go flat and she would bring out the caution on lap 7. The caution would eliminate the lead that Lingo had built. Lingo and Elliott would battle for the lead as tight as it could get from that restart all the way until the end. However, on lap 19 Staci Warrington’s right front fender would come off in turn three causing track officials to pull the caution. On the restart Elliott and Lingo would go back to their side-by-side racing with the race coming down to the final corner with Elliott ever so slightly edging by Lingo to pick up the victory on S.R. Pete & Sons night at Delaware International Speedway. Heats were won by Elliott and Andrew Mullins.

Super Late Model Finish: 1. Ricky Elliott 2. Donald Lingo Jr. 3. Andrew Mullins 4. Nick Davis 5. Joe Warren 6. Kerry King Jr. 7. Staci Warrington 8. Bobby Ballentine 9. Bob Geiger 10. Herb Tunis
