LEGENDS set for the ‘Battle at the Border with the Sooner Outlaws
CENTERVILLE, AR (March 21, 2022) – The GRT Legends Late Model Series presented by SuperClean will make their 2022 season debut alongside the Sooner Late Model Series at the Crawford County Speedway in Van Buren, AR for the first ever ‘Battle at the Border’.
The #LocalLegends will have their hands full as a strong field of the Sooner Late Models are expected to be on hand. They will all be battling it out for their share of the $1,000 to win and $300 to start in prize money. Dustin Allen will lead the charge from the Sooner contingent in his Black Diamond/Big D’s Speedomotive/Allen Tile and Remodeling sponsored #11. He will be looking to make some waves coming off a rookie season where he took home the top honors in the Rookie of the Year standings. Also making the trip over into the Natural State will be the runner up in the 2021 Sooner Late Model point standings, Hayden Ross. Ross, just 19 years old, already has 4 years of super late model racing to his credit and will be looking to put his Rocket XR1/Pro Power/Ross Construction Jay Hodge Chevrolet #66 out front.
Expected to make the trip are a couple of series regulars, Bauxite’s own Joseph Long will take his #37 Rocket by Long/LP Race Engines/Thompson Family Mid State Golf cars powered ride to wage war with the Sooner Late Models. Geoff Aitken will debut a new number this year but a familiar color scheme. The Pottsville, Arkansas driver’s #16 Rocket XR-1/Mullins Race Engines/Doug’s Electrical Kirby Specialties sponsored machine will definitely be a force to be reckoned with. Aitken is coming off a couple of strong finishes to end 2021 including winning the 2nd Annual Leon Cloninger Memorial event at Central Arkansas Motor Speedway.
2021 Series Points Champion Jason Miles will not be in attendance as he will be racing his Super Late Model at the XR Bristol Dirt Nationals. However, fellow Glenwood, Arkansas driver, and who recently just got his learners permit, Preston Farmer, will make his rookie start in the GRT Legends Late Model Series presented by SuperClean. The 14 y/o hotshoe showed up and showed out last year in Factory Stock competition including taking home a cool $1,000 in one added money race. This season will be his first, full time, in a dirt late model and he will be bringing his Rocket/Odell Chase Racing Engines/Farmers Tree Service Glenwood Auto Parts #32P into what’s sure to be a dandy of an event.
John. R Nelson Heat Race, SuperClean Heat Race, and Eckie’s DCR Heat Race Winner awards will be in play for the event and $100 bonus to the Quick Time/Pole Sitter from Tharp’s Automotive will be awarded.
The series points leader, after the upcoming Batesville race, will adorn the fluorescent red “Eckies DCR Parts and Racing Marked Man” spoiler to signify they are the points leader. That’s sure to garner some attention, bragging rights, and possibly a target for whomever gets to run the spoiler at each event.
Pit gates open at 4 pm on Saturday and racing action gets underway at 7:30pm. Be sure to make your plans now to attend the “Battle at the Border” and cheer on the #LocalLegends of the GRT Legends Late Model Series presented by SuperClean.
