Aitken captures 2022 GRT Legends Series Championship
(CENTERVILLE, AR) November 30, 2022 - Consistency is key. Just ask Geoff Aitken and his team. In a weather abbreviated season and just (10) starts, all of which he finished in the top 10, (8) in the top 5, put Aitken solidly ahead in the Eckie’s DCR Parts & Accessories Marked Man standings for most of the 2022 campaign.
Making every race on the GRT Legends Late Model Series presented by Super Clean was a key factor in the win as Aitken’s Doug’s Electrical Service/Mullins/Rocket XR1 #16 was the only car with perfect attendance in 2022.
In a season of highs and lows, and so many runner-up finishes, Aitken is optimistic and excited about 2023. “We found a few things toward the end of the year that had been binding up on the car; we are really excited to get back going again in 2023. I feel like we learned a tremendous amount about the car and what it needs, and I learned a great deal in the driver’s seat as well’ said Aitken.
“I must thank my sponsors, because without them this dream goes nowhere. Doug’s Electrical Service, Kirby Specialties, Digital Alarm Systems, Hottinger Plumbing, Strikers Bowling Alley, Doug’s Coins, Circle A Electrical, Wholesale Electrical Supply, A1 Tire, and Wildcat Engineering all had a hand in helping us in 2022 and we hope to have them all back on board for 2023 and have sponsorship opportunities available for new partners as well.”
Aitken also competed in the regional Comp Cams Super Dirt Series as well as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Legends Series off nights. “We are going to do our homework this winter and hopefully come out of the box swinging next season. All indications are that we plan to follow the GRT Legends Late Model Series full time in 2023 and maybe branch out a little more if the funding will allow us. Excited to see what new tracks we add to the schedule this year – I love a good challenge!” concluded Aitken.
If he can capture a second, back-to-back title, he would join Scotty Freeman of Hector as the only two time and repeat series campion. You can bet there will be others out there in the hunt looking to put their names on the top of the list as series champion in 2023.
