Chick Looking to Rebound After Tough Weekend During Berlin 251
Inside Line Promotions – MARNE, Mich. (Aug. 21, 2019) – Mandy Chick endured a challenging weekend throughout the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour’s Berlin 251 at Berlin Raceway.
Chick kicked off the race weekend on Friday with a practice day. She faced struggles throughout the afternoon, but the team continued to push forward.
“Right off the bat we struggled with the race car,” she said. “We were short a couple crew members and had to make several adjustments throughout the practice day. Overall my small crew did great, despite struggling with suspension and navigating this tricky race track.”
Saturday was a fresh start for Chick. The field was combined with JEGS/CRA super late models and pro late models. Chick qualified 28th quickest out of a full field of drivers.
“It was definitely different qualifying with the supers because you know you’re not going to look as fast or have some of the fastest lap times,” she said. “I was kind of discouraged about my qualifying efforts, but after taking a look at my notes from previous races there we actually picked up three tenths of a second from our previous qualifying times so that was a pick up.”
Chick started the 251-lap feature from the outside of the 14th row. She made her way through the field to the 16th position before rain began to fall. After a two and a half hour rain delay, the race resumed with 75 laps to go. Chick made an attempt to avoid a wreck and was spun in a racing incident. She made her way down pit road with cosmetic damage, but was able to resume racing before she ended in the 18th position.
“Berlin is such a technical track, drivers just struggle there,” she said. “We had made some ground in the feature and were on track for a solid points night before being involved in that racing incident where we got spun. At the end of the day, we overcame adversity and my team worked so hard to get us through this weekend, which makes me so incredibly proud of them.”
Chick ranks third in the championship standings.
“We still ended up with a solid points day, but two guys finished ahead of me so that means we have our work cut out for us in the next coming races for the championship,” she said. “We’re still in the championship battle and we’re headed to one of my favorite race tracks – Winchester Speedway – two more times before the end of the season. We’re ready to battle to the end for this championship. I believe in our team and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve for the rest of the season.”
The next series race is Sept. 1 at Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Ind.
