Chick Shows Strength Throughout Rookie Season With JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour

Inside Line Promotions – DE SOTO, Kan. (Dec. 3, 2018) – Mandy Chick showed major improvement and overcame obstacles throughout her first full season with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.

Chick kicked off the season at Birch Run Speedway in Birch Run, Mich., where she rallied to a 12th-place finish after encountering mechanical woes throughout the weekend. She followed that up by charging to an eighth-place result at ‘The Last Great Colosseum’ of Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn.

“This year we started out with racing Birch Run Speedway twice and Bristol Motor Speedway,” Chick said. “One of my favorite parts of the season was getting to go to Bristol. That place is such a cool track and definitely has a lot of history there and it was such an honor to get an opportunity to race there. I have a great team and it showed that weekend. When we had an issue in the race they jumped right in there and got it fixed. We were able to go back out there and finish eighth. That was really good for us because we knew the risk of Bristol going into that weekend and coming out with a good finish and the car in one piece was huge for us.”

Chick carried that momentum to her return to Birch Run Speedway for the next race on the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour schedule. The Masters of the Pros 200 consisted of 200 laps around the 4/10-mile asphalt oval, marking Chick’s longest race in her career.

“One of the big stops on the tour was the 200-lap race in the Master of the Pros at Birch Run,” Chick said. “It definitely was the longest race I have ever run. I gained a lot of experience of how tire conservation works and how strategy plays a factor in longer races like that.”

Just after the halfway point of the season, Chick faced some tough luck at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Mich., where she was caught up in an incident early on. However, she still managed to hang on to third in the championship standings.

Chick rebounded at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich., with a ninth-place finish, which locked her into the Chase for the Championship.

“Going into the season I put a goal out there that I wanted to be a contender for the championship,” she said. “I really wanted to win that championship, but I wanted to focus on getting into the Chase first. We went through the first few races and I forgot about that goal honestly. I just had fun with my team and we worked as hard as we could and then there we were in the Top Four for the Championship Chase.”

Chick started her championship hunt strong with a sixth-place finish at the high-banked oval of Winchester Speedway in Winchester, Ind. That run boosted both Chick and the team’s confidence levels heading into the remaining events in the Chase for the Championship.

However, Chick faced challenges and struggled through the second event of the Chase for the Championship at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind. Yet she was able to rally and secure a spot in the Final Four for the Championship Chase going into the final event at Winchester Speedway.

“At the beginning of the Chase, Owosso Speedway was the first race and that got rained out so then there was more pressure because they were going to eliminate more people per race,” she said. “So we went into Winchester and ended up sixth, which helped us with points. Then we were at Lucas Oil and I kind of struggled there. I’m better at the high-banked tracks and Lucas Oil is really flat so that was a challenging race, but I was able to hold on and win the tie-breaker to get into the Final Four of the Championship.”

Tough luck struck again at Winchester Speedway as Chick and the team encountered mechanical problems throughout the weekend. Chick ended fourth in the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship standings.

“We went to the last Winchester race with a good attitude and the mentality of knowing the worst we could do was finish fourth in the standings and to make it that far was already a huge accomplishment,” she said. “That weekend it was like we couldn’t catch a break. We blew a motor, had a clutch failure and were involved in a wreck during the scuff session, which unfortunately ended our weekend.

“We cut our losses and took our fourth-place finish in the standings. With all that we’ve been through this season and all that we have worked so hard for, fourth place is great. We will come back next year.”

Chick plans to return to competition with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour for the full season and contend for the championship again in 2019. Additionally, she aims to gain experience in the ARCA/CRA Super Series and race in several marquee Super Late Model races. Offseason updates will be posted on Chick’s social media accounts.

“We’ve already made so much progress in the shop for next year,” she said. “We’ve got both cars stripped down and ready to get fixed and rebuilt. We’re just going to go hard at that championship again next year.”
