Inside Line Promotions – BIRCH RUN, Mich. (May 4, 2018) – After hitting a couple of speed bumps throughout the weekend, Mandy Chick and her team rallied to record a 12th-place finish last Saturday at Birch Run Speedway with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.

“The weekend was eventful to say the least,” she said. “We didn’t get a lot of practice in because we broke two flywheels and a starter. So we spent a lot of time with the car on jack stands and under the hood, which wasn’t the start to the weekend that we were hoping for.”

Chick qualified 24th quickest, which relegated her to the Last Chance Showdown. She started on the inside of the second row for the race and advanced one position to claim the final transfer spot into the 24-car feature.

That lined her up on the outside of the 12th row for the 100-lap feature.

“It was pretty dicey racing from the get-go,” she said. “Everybody has those first race jitters. Unfortunately, we were caught up in an incident early on that we just couldn’t avoid. When you go three wide exiting a corner at Birch Run you run out of real estate in a hurry because the track narrows so much and that’s what happened. We were just one of the unfortunates that got a piece of it. That put us a couple of laps down, but by virtue of the Lucky Dog we were able to make that up.”

Despite the early incident and going two laps down, Chick charged to a 12th-place finish to kick off the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour season. She passed the second-most cars during the race.

“Even though that incident did set us back a little, I actually had a lot of fun in this race,” she said. “It was fun because it challenged me as a driver. With no nose, we didn’t have the downforce we normally have so the car kept getting tighter throughout the race. It was a tough car to drive, but we held on and overcame those obstacles to still log a decent run.

“I definitely felt like we had a top-five car going into the weekend. But now I’m just proud of my team and how we were faced with obstacles and were able to overcome and adjust throughout the weekend. We just never give up and that’s an awesome mentality to have for the rest of the season.”

Chick’s next event is May 20 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., for the US Short Track Nationals with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour.
