Chick Honored as Kulwicki Driver Development Program Semifinalist
Inside Line Promotions – DE SOTO, Kan. (Feb. 23, 2018) – Mandy Chick is gearing up for a busy and promising 2018 season.
During the offseason, Chick sent in her application to be a participant in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program. The program was established by the family of late NASCAR Champion Alan Kulwicki to help worthy drivers along the way in reaching their dream, while at the same time keeping Kulwicki’s memory and legacy alive. The program is aimed at the “grass roots racer,” and the objective is to identify and assist a driver with sponsorship, operational expenses, publicity and networking, and assistance with necessary equipment in the earlier stages of his or her career, according to its website.
Within the last week, the program narrowed its selection pool down to 21 semifinalists and Chick is one of those drivers.
“Being a semifinalist in this program is a really big deal.” she said. “I’m absolutely honored to be a part of this and I want to continue to keep Alan Kulwicki’s legacy living because he has had, and with this program stills has, a huge influence on the NASCAR world. I feel a special connection to Alan’s legacy because, like Alan, I will be a Mechanical Engineer, plus I work on my own race cars much like he did. This program means a lot to me and is very important to many grass-root racers. The KDDP offers a great way to get developing racers involved and help us with unique opportunities that will help us throughout our careers.”
Chick will have a phone interview next week with the board of the program, which will determine the seven finalists competing for the KDDP throughout the remainder of the season.
“I’ve been working hard on my public speaking, mock interviews, social media and anything that will better prepare me,” Chick said. “This program is something I really believe in and is special to me. I would love to have the opportunity to continue on to the next round and to be a proud representative and ambassador of the program.”
Chick also has her schedule set to compete full time in the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour as she is preparing to contend for the championship in 2018.
“We have had an extremely busy offseason filled with some major race shop renovations,” she said. “This has been a big project for our team, but we are all confident that the results will be a more organized shop with better workflow and more useable space for preparing our race cars. Ultimately, this will all translate to better on track performances for my team and I. Johnny and Butch VanDoorn from VanDoorn Racing Development have completed the updates on the car we ran at Winchester last year and we just got it back. Plus, we have a new Super Late Model Chassis at VRD being built now. Soon we will be jumping right into 2018 with some aggressive pre-season testing in order to prepare for the first JEGS CRA All Stars Tour race in April, then my first trip to Bristol in May for the US Short Track Nationals.”
Chick will kick off the JEGS/CRA All Stars Tour season on April 29 at Birch Run Speedway in Birch Run, Mich.
