Overton Claims HTF Series Mid-Season Championship
MILTON, Fla. (July 8) — With the postponement of Saturday’s Independence Shootout at Senoia Raceway, the chase for the 2024 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series Mid-Season Championship has concluded with Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., atop the series points standings.
Overton, who scored two victories and seven top-five finishes in the nine series races completed before the mid-season point designated by the 2024 series rulebook, will receive $5,000 from a total of $18,000 in Mid-Season points fund money that will be paid out among the tour’s 14 full-time drivers.
With one win and three top-five finishes, Sam Seawright of Fort Payne, Ala., is second in the series points standings at mid-season and will earn $3,000. Third-place Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., will receive $2,000; fourth-place Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., will receive $1,500; and fifth-place Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., will receive $1,000. All 14 drivers who remain in good standing with the series will earn a minimum of $500.
The chase for the tour’s $50,000 season-long championship takes a brief summer break before picking back up with a huge doubleheader weekend Aug. 2-3 at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, Tenn. The 12th running of the track’s Deep Fried 75 will feature a $5,000-to-win opener on Friday, Aug. 2, followed by the $20,000-to-win weekend finale on Saturday, Aug. 3.
The tour’s rescheduled trip to Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Ga., will take place on Aug. 17 as part of a huge night of racing that will also feature the 604 Crate Late Models of the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Parts Crate Racin' USA Dirt Late Model Series.
The Aug. 17 date for the HTF Series was originally planned to be a $15,000-to-win show at East Alabama Motor Speedway. However, the owner of EAMS notified series officials on Tuesday, July 2 that they wished to cancel the race, leaving the date open for the Senoia postponement. In combining the HTF Series event with an already planned special event for the Crate Racin’ USA tour, track and HTF series officials have agreed to use the tour’s standard $15,000-to-win payout for the event.
From Senoia, the tour will head north for its first ever visit to Kentucky for a doubleheader weekend Aug. 23-24 at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Ky. The weekend opens with a $5,000-to-win show Friday night and concludes with a $15,000-to-win event Saturday.
September will see the tour visit Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, Ga., for a $10,000-to-win show on Sept. 13 that serves as a lead-in to a World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at nearby Senoia on Sept. 14. A week later, HTF Series competitors head for Thunderhill Raceway Park in Summertown, Tenn., for a $5,000-to-win show on Sept. 20 and a $15,000-to-win show on Sept. 21.
The tour returns to Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., as part of the track’s annual Red Farmer Tribute NASCAR Weekend Oct. 1-2 for another doubleheader featuring a $5,000-to-win Friday night show and a $15,000-to-win Saturday night program.
The series will conclude and crown its $50,000 champion Nov. 1–2 with a finale weekend spectacular. Full details for that event will be announced soon.
