Duty takes best finish of 6th in Wild West Shootout at Vado

Justin Duty and his Double Duty Motorsports team returned to action at Vado (N.M.) Speedway Park on Wednesday, kicking off a slate of four races in five days to complete the 18th annual Rio Grande Waste Services Wild West Shootout.

Duty, who turned in a pair of solid runs on the event’s opening weekend, was one of 39 Super Late Model racers in the pit area on Wednesday when the six-race series got back underway. He drove his First Class Septic No. 15 machine to third in his heat on the 3/8-mile track that evening, starting him 11th in the 30-lap, $11,000-to-win A-Main. He turned in a sixth-place result, his best finish of the week.

Thursday was a scheduled off day for the series before action picked up again with another $11,000-to-win program that brought 43 Super Late Models to the track on Friday. A fifth in his heat put Duty in a B-Main, where he punched his ticket to the 30-lap feature by finishing second. He started 19th and finished 16th in the main event.

With 43 Super Late Models also parked in the pits on Saturday, Duty finished seventh in his heat, but grabbed the fourth and final transfer spot in his “B” to move into the evening’s 40-lap, $11,000-to-win big show. Duty started 24th and took the checkered flag in the 23rd spot.

The Double Duty Motorsports team elected to forego Sunday’s Wild West Shootout finale, paying $26,000 to the winner of the 50-lap feature.
