Edmond, OK (January 23, 2019) BDS Motorsports fields a midget one time a year and Travis Rilat pilots a midget one time a year, the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Known as the Super Bowl of midget racing, the Chili Bowl Nationals features the best drivers from nearly every form of motorsports and this year was no exception. Even with the lack of midget racing done by both Rilat and BDS, they showed this year that they are not only a great sprint car combination, but a midget racing one as well.
With well over 300 cars entered for the 34th Annual Chili Bowl Nationals, Travis and the team were scheduled to compete Monday night so that Travis could return to work for the remainder of the week. Rolling off sixth in his heat race, Travis moved forward to a third-place finish, earning crucial passing points along the way. His heat race results put the BDS #1B on the outside front row of one of the four qualifier races. With passing points being key once again, Travis wasted little time jumping out to the lead and went on to win his qualifier in dominating fashion. With over 60 cars competing Monday night, Travis locked into the A-main by earning the ninth most passing points between heat race and qualifier competition. Starting ninth in the 25-lap A-main, Travis worked his way up to sixth at one point, but fell back late in the race to a very respectable seventh-place finish. This finish locked him into one of two B-main events scheduled for Saturday’s finale. Lining up 11th in Saturday’s B-main, Travis was unable to move forward and finished his Chili Bowl with a 13th place finish. In a race that included some of the best dirt drivers from the World of Outlaws, ASCS National Series, USAC, and POWRi, Travis’ 13th place finish was a great end to the toughest week in midget racing.
Travis and the BDS Motorsports team will now prepare for the beginning of the 2019 sprint car season. A team schedule will be out very soon so stay tuned for more updates.
