Marks Struggles with Brakes at Port Royal Speedway’s Tuscarora 50

Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2013) – Brent Marks devoted extra time this season toward the Tuscarora 50.

Unfortunately, the 46th edition of the famed event at Port Royal Speedway went anything but well for Marks last weekend.

“It was definitely a really, really bad weekend,” he said. “It was probably our worst weekend of the entire year.”

Marks was plagued by brake problems all weekend and it ended with him failing to advance to the feature on Saturday for the first time in Pennsylvania all season.

“It was disappointing because we worked the past month to give us a shot to win that race,” he said. “It was a mechanical failure that kept us from being competitive. I think if we didn’t have any mechanical problems we would have had a top-10 car. It was one of those deals.”

Marks opened the weekend on Friday when he qualified 22nd quickest. He made the inversion for his heat race, which he won to lock into the feature. After starting 21st in the main event, Marks began to work his way toward the top 10.

“We had a decent car in the feature and were just starting to come on in Lap 12 or 13,” he said. “Then a rock came in and broke the brake line. The track was too slick to not have any brakes. I decided to pull in and save the car for Saturday.”

Marks was credited with a 21st-place result on Friday, but the brake issue wasn’t any better on Saturday.

“When we got to the track Saturday we experienced horrible brake problems all night long,” he said. “Every time we went out I was struggling with my brakes. I had to pump it up 10 or 12 times. It got to the point where I had to push really hard on the brakes and hold them around the track to have any brakes. I’ve never gone through an entire night without fixing a problem.”

Marks qualified 35th quickest and finished seventh in his heat race. He then rallied from 16th to place fifth in the B Main, which was one spot out of transferring to the main event.

“If the track was super fast and heavy I wouldn’t have needed as much brakes,” he said. “I had to make do with what I had and couldn’t do anything with it. The whole time trial thing set us behind and we couldn’t dig ourselves out of that hole.”

Marks is scheduled to compete at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday and at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., on Saturday.
