Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 20, 2018) – A right front wheel packed with mud likely kept Scott Bogucki from scoring a top-five finish during the season opener for the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com last Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
Bogucki, who is vying for the Rookie of the Year Award with the series, managed to hang on to a 10th-place finish aboard the SawBlade.com backed 360ci sprint car after starting 16th during the 45th annual Spring Nationals.
“I had gotten up to seventh and another driver slid me and I got into the cushion and packed the right front wheel full of mud,” he said. “It was pretty much game over after that. The entire car shook really bad after that and I just hung on. I know I have to finish for points. It’s a real shame because I think we had a top-five car.”
It took the heat race to “knock the rust off” for Bogucki as he charged from sixth to fourth place.
“I had a great race with Sammy (Swindell),” he said. “We traded sliders and I got to third and went to the bottom in turns three and four and made a mistake and he got by me. It was my first night in a Maxim in three years and my first race since last November. By the end of the heat I felt really comfortable in the car.”
Saturday’s event finale rained out.
Bogucki said the crew will go through the entire car as the vibrations from the packed wheel is “hard on everything.” The next race is slated for April 6-7 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
“I’ll tell you my kidneys hurt after that one,” he said. “That’s not good on the motor either. We will go through the car and check everything out and get ready for Texas. With Tony Stewart putting that deal on there will be a lot of great drivers on hand. I’m excited to see how we stack up.”
