Ian Madsen and KCP Racing Stay Hot as They Record Top-5 at Jackson Motorplex
PETERSEN MEDIA- Continuing to slowly get back in a regular racing routine, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team continued their strong 2020 campaign as the Australian driver recorded a fifth-place finish during Friday’s event at the Jackson Motorplex.
“It was a solid night for our KCP Racing team,” Ian Madsen said. “We were a little off in the feature, but still great to get away with a Top-5 with an extremely tough field of cars.”
Going out second to last in his qualifying flight, Madsen was able to find some grip on the Jackson Motorplex surface as he timed the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in third quickest.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Madsen would pick up a third-place finish which was good enough to move him into both the Feature Event as well as one of the twin Dashes.
Picking up a Dash win, Madsen would line up on the second row of the feature event, as he looked to build off of his second-place finish at Knoxville Raceway just one week ago.
Battling with Donny Schatz for the race lead, Madsen would complete a pass only to see the yellow flag waive and negate his efforts.
When the race came back to life, Madsen continued to run in the second position as he chased after Schatz and dealt with a challenging surface that continued to change lap by lap.
Making another bid for the race lead, Madsen would come up short and actually slip back to third. With the surface continuing to change, Madsen would find himself a little on the tight side of things as he fought to maintain a position on the podium.
Slipping a couple of positions in the race’s closing laps, Madsen would finish fifth, marking his seventh Top-5 of the 2020 season in his 10th start of the season.
“We just made a wrong adjustment after the Dash, and it hurt us a little in the feature,” Madsen added. “Still, not a bad result by any means and we will look to continue this as we head to Pevely, MO this weekend.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, , Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-10, Wins-0, Top-5’s- 7, Top 10’s-7
