Scelzi Scores Second Place Finish at Knoxville Raceway with KCP Racing

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting the call to pilot the KCP Racing No. 18, Gio Scelzi made his debut with the team over the last week and adapted quickly as he finished second on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway after making his first laps with the team on Tuesday night at Lernerville Speedway.

“Tuesday night we were decent, I made a mistake in the feature that ruined our night,” Gio Scelzi said. “I thought our communication was really good, and just felt that if I got more comfortable, we could be really good but that comes with time.”

Taking on the World of Outlaws in his first appearance aboard the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed machine, Scelzi would get off to a nice start as he timed in seventh fastest before finishing fourth in his heat race.

Moving into the 40-lap feature event, Scelzi would find himself running mid-pack until a mid-race mistake saw him get over the edge of the speedway and he opted to call it a night and head back to the trailer.

Heading to Knoxville, IA on Saturday night, Scelzi got off to a great start as he timed in second fastest amongst the 31 cars checked into the historic facility.

Finishing fourth in his heat race, the Fresno, CA driver transferred directly into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the outside of the second row.

Nearly one calendar year removed from his first win at the speedway, the 18-year-old wheel man turned in a nice run that saw him move into third during the race’s waning laps before a big move on the last lap saw him overtake Austin McCarl for second.

With Aaron Reutzel checked out, Scelzi would cap his first week with KCP Racing with a second-place finish.

“Saturday went great,” Scelzi added. “Every time we hit the track, Tyler Swank and I figure each other out more and more which is huge. It was really an efficient night for us, we timed in well, had a solid heat race, and we were really good in the feature. For being only my second night in the car, I am very happy with a second-place finish against a ton of good cars, and I am looking forward to the next few weekends.”

KCP Racing would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, Armor Electric Company, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.

BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-2, Wins-0, Top-5’s- 1, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Scelzi and KCP Racing will have a busy weekend ahead as they battle the All Star Circuit of Champions. Thursday night at Plymouth Dirt Track, Friday night at 34 Raceway, Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway, and Sunday night they will take part in Husets Speedway’s re-opening.
