PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of a Top-Five finish at Eldora Speedway a week ago, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team continued to ride the wave of momentum in the final weeks of the season as the team finished eighth on Friday night at Lakeside Speedway before Madsen finished a hard fought second to Donny Schatz on Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.

“It was a great night for our team,” Ian Madsen said. “Saturday night we had some serious speed all night long, I just misread traffic and it cost us. We have been awfully strong lately and am hoping to pick up a win in our final four races of the year.”

Establishing a new single lap track record in time trials at the Dodge City Raceway Park aboard his Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring entry, Madsen continued to flex his muscle as he picked up wins in both his heat race and the Dash to give himself the pole in the feature event as he looked to complete the clean sweep.

When the feature event came to life on what was an extremely fast racing surface, Madsen shot out to the early lead and reached the back of the field within the race’s first five laps.

Getting held up by a slower car, Madsen’s gap over Donny Schatz would shrink and by the ninth circuit Madsen lost the lead and ran back in second. A couple of cautions slowed the pace of the race, but each restart Madsen and Schatz made it clear that they were superior.

Late in the race, the same traffic that slowed Madsen gave Schatz fits and it allowed Madsen to close in. Working Schatz on the final lap, Madsen would come up just short from his first win of the season as he capped his night with a second place run.

“We had a lot of people in attendance on Saturday night, and it was great to run well,” Madsen said. “The last three, four races have been good to us and we will keep working to end this season on a high note.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
