Ian Madsen Looks To Build Momentum Off of Strong Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting in three nights of racing over the Memorial Day Weekend, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing would pocket finishes of third and sixth place finishes, and were well on their way to a third Top-Five on Monday night until a late flat hampered them.

“We really had a good weekend, with a great car underneath us all three nights,” Ian Madsen said. “It was frustrating to end our weekend with a flat while we were having another good run, but Wednesday night we get back to it and hopefully we can keep this speed up.”

Madsen’s busy weekend kicked off Friday night in Charlotte, NC with the World of Outlaws annual visit to the Charlotte Dirt Track. Timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring No. 18 entry in third quickest in time trials, the St. Marys, NSW driver would pick up the heat race win.

Moving into the Craftsman Club Dash, Madsen would finish fifth and like the KCP Racing entry up in the third row for the 30-lap feature event.

Having a good run during the 2017 season finale World Finals event, Madsen was able to mimic that performance on Friday night as he stayed in contention from the drop of the green flag.

Dropping back to eighth following a double-file restart that didn’t go his way, Madsen would stay calm and work his way back up to finish sixth at the waiving of the checkered flag.

With a few days off before the next World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series race, Madsen and company would make a rare cameo at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night where he would earn quick time honors and pick up an impressive heat race win after a hard fought battle with Mark Dobmeier.

Lining up eighth in the feature event, the reigning Track Champion would show fans just why he was able to win the 2017 crown as he worked his way forward around the famed ½ mile. Racing his way up into fourth, Madsen would chase after his older brother, Kerry for position.

Battling with Kerry in the closing laps, Madsen would take the checkered flag in fourth, but after post race tech he would be bumped up and officially scored third.

Monday night Madsen and KCP Racing would meet back up with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as they invaded Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, IN.

34 cars would check in for the rare appearance in Indiana, and Madsen would get off to a bit of a slow start as he timed in 16th quickest in time trials.

Form the second row of his heat race, Madsen would earn a valuable position as his third place finish placed him in the 12th starting position for the 35-lap feature event.

On the high banked, and racy Lawrenceburg Speedway, Madsen would put together a great run as he put his car on the ragged edge and forged his way ahead towards the Top-Five.

Racing his way into the Top-Five late in the race, Madsen would feel his tire going down while parading around under yellow. Ultimately forced to bring his machine to a stop with a flat, Madsen would end up finishing 16th.

“We were back up front where this team belongs all three nights, and it’s a credit to my guys for never giving up and continuing to work hard,” Madsen said. “We were disappointed with Monday’s result but we can’t dwell on it and get right back to it with another busy week.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Bobcat, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
