Time to get the Racing Season Underway
The time has finally arrived for JMR (Jacob Moose Racing) to kick off the 2011 season…………………..it’s been a couple of long and busy weeks since the car shows. We had the YG390 car ready well ahead of schedule, then the series folded. So in about 4 weeks we had to purchase wings, 125 engine and other components. Get the wings painted, lettered and the engine rebuilt for this season. We finally got the engine back this past Saturday night at 10 pm. I spent most of Saturday afternoon and evening with our new engine builder Bob Albright of BAM (Bob Albright Motors). On Sunday, Jacob and I got the engine in the car; coolant lines ran and finished up the electronic shifter unit. We had some issues getting the engine to fire, but one call to our engine builder and the engine came to life.
Jacob put the engine through one heat cycle on Sunday afternoon, it’s been a long winter for him and he was anxious and excited to get back in the car. He was all smiles after the first heat cycle; he said “this engine is 20 times faster than last year”. He is looking forward to having a faster engine and learning throttle control; this engine will spin the tires and break the rear end loose.
Our 2011 season begins this Saturday at Shippensburg, with a non-points race at 2 pm. Then on Sunday at Shippensburg is a “rookie” practice day, for any driver that is competing in a new class for 2011. We are eligible, since Jacob moved up to the 125 class this year; it also starts at 2 pm.
In closing I would like to thank our newest sponsor for coming on board with JMR (Jacob Moose Racing) for the 2011 season. Newburg Family Store, with their specialty being pizza and subs, has come on board with us for 2011. Owners Ken and Renee (in my opinion have the best pizza around) will have their company logo on both sides of the front wing this year. The car will also be on display in Newburg, Saturday May 7th, for a community event featuring two of our sponsors, Stump Transportation and Newburg Family Store, if you would like to come out and see the car and try the best pizza in the area. Jacob will also be signing and handing out autograph cards during the day also.
