HMS Update - Hall of Fame Classic
This weekend we are back in Arizona at Canyon Speedway Park for the USAC Hall of Fame Classic tonight and tomorrow. Last weekend we raced with the ASCS Canyon region and although we didn't get the results we would've liked, we think that there are definitely some things we can learn and take away going into this weekend's action. The first night on a heavy racetrack I was able to win my heat race from the pole starting position which put me 3rd for the start of the A feature. After getting bottled up I slipped back a few spots but was making some ground on the top 4 during the middle part of the race. However, there was a caution and I tried to make a move on the outside on the cushion that did not pay off. I ended up 12th after losing several spots late. The next night I started 4th in my heat race on a similar race track and was next to the 2nd place finisher at the line but had to settle for 3rd. That put me 12th to start the A feature. In the early laps I held my ground but wasn't great, trying to find a spot on the track to make the car work. After a mid race caution I was able to make quite a bit of ground on the bottom, at one point surging to about 5th but soon the moisture went away and I started slipping back where I started, ultimately finishing 11th. My car worked really well when there was some grip but as soon as I had to got to the top groove I faded. As I said before, we'll work on it and hopefully have a good showing in our first USAC race.
