HMS Update - Floyd Reynolds Prelim Night Win

Although the weekend started off tough, we were able capture our first win of the season tonight at the Aztec Speedway in Aztec, NM with the ASCS Southwest region. We were scheduled to race the non-wing car with the NMMRA this weekend, as well, but we hurt the motor on practice night and that left us with just the wing car. The night started by pulling pill 29 to start 5th in the 3rd heat race. The track was slick in hot laps and by the time our heat race came around, there was a streak of rubber on exit of turns 2 and 4. On the initial start, 3rd and 4th place got into eachother and we did a complete restart with me starting 3rd. On the start I jumped to 2nd and started to reel in the leader. After a few laps he slipped up just enough and I was able to take the lead, and eventually win the heat race. That was good enough to put us in the top 8 re-draw where I drew outside the front row for the A-feature. The track now took quite a bit of rubber all the way around the bottom and I knew it was going to be tough starting on the outside where it was only slick and dusty. We got pretty aggressive with the Momentum shocks and from the start I felt really good but the bottom was too good on the intitial start and I fell in line 2nd. A few laps in I was on the leader's bumper and trying to make a move on the narrow race track but I had no success. At one point I pushed the issue a little too far in lap traffic and lost 2nd to the charging Derrik Ortega but a caution saved me and my spot. On a lap 12 restart, I was able to squeeze by the leader on the outside, using as much rubber I could grab ahold of and I was able to take the lead. Within a few laps I was able to stretch it to about a straightaway before another yellow. A couple more green flag runs passed and I was able to capture the win which also locks us into Sunday's A-feature! I need to thank Jody Williams and my family for their help and support tonight, as well as the Ortega's. We look forward to doing it again tomorrow night here at Aztec with the ASCS Southwest guys again! A shout out to Mark Rosborough, too, who helps us frequently: we wish you were here with us this weekend, Mark!
