HMS Update - Cocopah Speedway

Night three of 2012 ASCS National competition is wrapped up at Cocopah Speedway here in Yuma, AZ. We had another solid run here in the desert which started with me pulling pill number 16. That set me up to start 3rd in the 3rd heat race on the slick, but still very fast track. On the start, my row did not get a great jump and I fell into line in 4th. The top side was the only groove that was working and that's were I went. For the heat race it was single file with hardly any passing. I ended up finsihing 4th which was still good enough for a 13th place starting position for the night's A-feature. Fortunately, the track got racier and on the initial start I was able to jump by 2 or 3 cars on the bottom of turns 1 and 2 but that start was called back and we did it all over again. This time was not nearly as good for me and I fell in line around 14th or 15th. The first few laps I tried different lines and found myself being at the wrong place at the wrong time and I fell back to about 19th or 20th. When we got to about 10 laps in, I started figuring out the car and the track and I started moving forward. I ran myself into the 16th position with about 5-10 laps to go and started making ground on the cars in front of me. In those remaining laps, I ran them down by almost a half straightaway but was not able to do any more finishing 16th, again, after 2 16th place finishes last weekend. We finished on the same half track as the leaders and I really felt the car come in with about 10 to go so I am really happy with the way things were working. I'm looking forward to tonight's race and hopefully we can improve on our 3 consecutive 16th place runs.
