Hodges Motosrports Update - Souther NM Speedway
One night of the ASCS National two day show is over at the Southern New Mexico Speedway here in Las Cruces, NM. I kicked it off pulling the 44 pill, which put me starting 6th in the fifth heat race. The track was really heavy, and I stuggled in the second hot lap session to get the car to roll nicely. It turns out I had a bit of the same problem in the heat race, and I was only able to manage a 5th place finish. With 61 cars in the pits, that result was only good enough to get a 3rd row outside starting spot in the third B feature. After making some changes, we got under way and the car was feeling really good. I was able to make my way to 3rd really quick, and I hung there for about 10 laps. 2nd place (the last transfer spot) bobbled and I was able to make up some ground so I was only a few car lengths behind. Through lap traffic, on the final lap, I was able to go by on the inside and slide up in front to secure 2nd place, and the final transfer spot to the A feature. From there, we made a few changes to try and adapt to changing track conditions, and in the first few laps of the A, I was able to go by about four cars from 20th, but then my car started to get really snug and I slipped backwards. A few laps in I was caught a lap down with a caution, so that set me back away from the field, unable to race for position, but for the remainder of the race I got to run with some faster cars and I really learned a lot. It was great just to make the feature after our dismal heat race, and we are ready to go at it again tonight!
