Hodges Motorsports Update - Copper on Dirt
Night 2 of the Copper on Dirt is over here in the desert at the USA Raceway. It was windy, and had some drops of rain during the afternoon, but mother nature cooperated and the show was run. I pulled pill number 38, and that put me starting 7th in the first heat (just like the night before). The track was fairly moist still with a solid top and bottom groove. Working my way on the bottom, I fell back to 8th on the start, and drove up to 5th. That was just enough to get me into the A Feature, being the last car locked in at 16th. After the rest of the heats, B-Mains, and Late Models, the track got much slicker, and had two grooves, one hugging the pole, and the other pushin' the cushion inches from the fence. I took off and got a couple on the start, and was working forward the opening few circuits, but after getting out of shape with a few cars, I fell back to 14th. I would run here the rest of the race, but actually was as fast or faster than the two front runners when I got lapped for a few laps towards the middle to later part of the main. It got a little tight towards the end, but we were happy to role it in the trailer in one piece and get some valuable experience. Our next stop as of now looks to be the next ASCS National race at Devil's Bowl Speedway for the 38th Annual Spring Nationals. As always, plans can change though, so check in and see what we're doing!
