Its trophy time in Charlotte
The Whelen All-American Championship banquet has now become an annual trip for the Helliwell racing crew. At this years black tie event, Wayne and his wife Jill, along with the Witkum family were honored as the 2011 Lee USA Speedway and New Hampshire state champion. This two day extravaganza was highlighted with a championship banquet which was hosted by Speedway Illustrated’s Dr.Dick Berggren and FOX broadcasting analyst Mike Joy. Champions from around America and parts of Canada were honored for their year long accomplishments.
This was Helliwells first track and state championship behind the wheel of a 350 Supermodified.
“It’s great to share the spotlight with Ed and Bobby(Witkum), to be able to give them their first championship, it’s a great feeling. Taking home the state title too is just icing on the cake for everyone. We all wish the season wasn’t over, we’re ready to go again.” said Wayne.
