Henry Earns First Podium of 2015

FREMONT, Ohio – Though he’s a constant contender for a win – he’s been in the top five at some point in all seven races he’s competed in this season – Cap Henry is still working on his first victory of 2015. Make no mistake, however; Henry radiates talent behind the wheel of a sprint car, and he is displaying that it is not a matter of “if“ he can get to the winner’s circle this season, it’s “when.”
Starting his weekend off at Attica Raceway Park on Friday night, Henry started very strong, as the fastest driver in qualifying among 27 entries. His 12.665-second lap earned him quick time, but the top-four invert for heat races meant he’d be starting his heat from outside row two; a pass on the start would be the lone pass of the heat for Henry, finishing third.
The Bellevue, Ohio shoe earned the fifth starting spot for the 30-lap feature, moving into fourth early on. He would slowly fall back to seventh by the halfway point but would continue riding in that spot for about ten laps. With four rounds left, Henry was locked in a three-way fight, trying to move back into the fifth position. Attempting to power through the middle of the triad, he lost the handle on the Genzman Racing Enterprises No. 53, spinning to a stop. After rejoining the tail of the field, he worked his way back to the 11th position in the waning laps. “I was battling,” he explained, “and tried to split them and spun.”
Narrowly missing out on a top-ten gave Henry some extra motivation for Saturday at Fremont Speedway. He again turned in a strong qualifying time, a fifth-quick effort at 13.033 seconds. From the fifth starting spot in his heat race, Henry gained two positions to take third, locking into the feature and earning a start in the dash on his qualifying time. The full invert for dash lineup put the Genzman J&J/Level machine on the outside of the front row of the six-car, six-lap affair to set the front three rows of the feature race. Henry fell one position to finish in the third spot.
From third on the grid for the 30-lap main event, Henry shot under the front row starters to take the lead on lap one. While retaining the lead over the next ten laps, Henry couldn’t establish a margin between he and his competitors. In lapped traffic, he would lose the lead, and drop back into the third spot on lap 14. While hanging close, he was never able to mount a charge back around, but was also never challenged for the third spot for the remainder of the caution-free event. His finish would capture his first podium of the year after three fourth-place finishes and a fifth.
Henry would like to thank Level Performance, J&J Auto Racing, OC Shocks, FK Rod Ends, Simpson Race Products, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, HMS Speedways & Hobbies, Handy Grafix, and Kear's Speed Shop as well as his family, the Genzman team, and all of his great fans for their continued support.
Henry is next scheduled to compete on May 14 at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio and on May 15 at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, both with the FAST Series in the No. 53 410ci winged sprint entry.
