26 Promotions – Tucson, AZ – (May 28, 2019) – Cody Cambensy was fast again Saturday night at Tucson Speedway, but a late-race move for the win saw the No. 22 truck spin around and make contact with another truck, relegating him to a 14th place finish.

Qualifying for the Tucson driver went off without a hitch, as Cambensy would again roll out to the speedway capturing the pole with a lap time of 16.184 seconds, obliterating his previously-set track record by three-tenths of a second, and beating the field out by four-tenths of a second.

A low invert for the feature would swap the front row around, with Cambensy still able to begin the race from a front row seat. With tires being a concern from the previous race at Tuscon Speedway, conservation was heavy on the mind.

“Our plan was to just get into a rhythm and pace enough to save tires and go hard the last five-to-ten laps,” explained Cambensy. “I slipped back to third but was just in conservation mode. As soon as we got to lap 15, I started picking up the pace, getting to second and running down the leader.”

Cambensy dove to the inside for the lead in turn three coming around to the white flag but the truck got loose and spun around before making significant contact with another car, harming the front suspension and cutting down a left rear tire. After pitting, Cambensy returned to the track for a green-white-checkered restart but was only able to battle back to the 14th position.

“Only thing to blame for this is me,” said Cambensy. “I just got too throttle happy and spun the tires trying to clear the 16 for the lead and lost it. The truck was amazing, just a complete driver error. This now puts our team in a hard spot for the point standings with a lot of ground to make up. We have the team and equipment to do it, I just need to do a better job. There is a lot of racing still left, but it is frustrating considering we should have won the last two races but that is racing and we will get back to victory lane.”

Cody Cambensy would like to thank Dustin Ash Motorsports, Brandon Farrington, Josh Hitchiner, Terry Sukalski, Temperature Control, Davis Motorsports, Grace Boutique, Wells Johnson, Port of Tucson, Fiveone Media, and AZ Litho for their support.
