26 Promotions – Tucson, AZ – (August 28, 2018) – Cody Cambensy rebounded after a 12th-place finish in the first NASCAR Super Truck main event to score his tenth top-five finish of the year in the second of two feature events at Tucson Speedway Saturday night.
“We made some big swings at the setup, and with practice getting cut short we didn’t get many laps to make changes,” he said. “The setup was not at all what we were looking for and with qualifying rained out we thrashed to get the setup back to where we had it or as close as possible.”
With no qualifying or heat races, the lineup for the first feature event of the night was set by points, putting Cambensy on the outside of the front row for the start of the 30-lap event.
“We battled for the lead with our teammate, Daniel Doherty, for the first few laps and soon slipped to third,” he explained. “We were running a good race right behind both our teammates and about halfway through the race another car got into the back of us and sent us into the infield. We were stuck in the mud, and it took a little while to pull us out. It was frustrating because we had a decent truck and when we went spinning into the infield it tore the nose off, bent a shock and packed the left-rear spring with mud, and it loaded about 40 pounds of mud on the truck.”
Cambensy was able to continue but would cross the line in 12th as the checkers waved to conclude the first truck main event of the night.
“My crew chief Terry and the rest of the TMI guys thrashed to get the nose repaired and made some adjustments, and we were able to make it back out for the second feature,” he said. “We had to come from the very back of the field, but there was some incredible clean racing during the second feature. We were three and sometimes four-wide on the restarts.”
Cambensy battled his way through the field in the second feature, ending his night with a fourth-place finish.
“It was great to rebound after the first part of the night to get another top-five,” he said. “From having to change the setup and getting taken out and fixing the truck to pass a lot of cars and make it to fourth, I was pretty happy. I have to thank TMI for all the help as well as my crew chief Terry Skulaski and Brandon Farrington for all their hard work. We will get the truck back together and give it another run for a win next race.”
Cambensy will be back in action on September 15th with the NASCAR Super Trucks at Tucson Speedway.
Cody Cambensy would like to thank Brad and Joann at TMI, INC., Temperature Control INC., Levin Racing, Castle Roofing, Port of Tucson, Tucson Frozen Storage, Dirt Works Contracting, Desert RV, Road Runner Pizza, and Fiveone Media for their continued support.
